Position Summary:

The Ministry Secretary serves as the administrative anchor for the Boise Corps spiritual ministry, ensuring the ministry office runs efficiently and effectively. Acting as a primary point of contact for the church, Youth programs, and Men and Woman Fellowship. This individual manages daily office operations, coordinates communication, and provides vital administrative support to the Corps Officers, staff, and congregation. As a representative of The Salvation Army, the ideal candidate blends high-level organizational skills with a warm, ministry-minded, and professional demeanor. This position is the ministry position and individual obtaining this job must agree to the Salvation Army mission statement and doctrinal beliefs. Person is also required to attend the Salvation Army services and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Office Management



  • Ministry Office Operations: Provide communication, answer telephone inquiries, screen calls, and direct guests or messages to the appropriate personnel with warmth and professionalism.
  • Correspondence & Mail: Manage incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and ministry related correspondence on behalf of the Corps Officers.
  • Report: create reports and enter data for the ministry programs, including the Corps management and Well Sky data. Coordinate this data submissions with all other departments.
  • Communication: communicate and actively promote the Salvation Army ministry within the other social services programs in coordination with program department leaders. Communicate the Corps programs with church members.
  • Fundraising: Lead and organize Avenues of Hope for the Salvation Army in Ada County.


Administrative & Clerical Support



  • Scheduling & Calendaring: Maintain the master church calendar for ministries, facility use, meetings, and special events.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, church rolls, and filing systems (both physical and digital) while strictly preserving confidentiality.
  • Publications & Reporting: Assist in preparing Sunday bulletins, weekly newsletters, announcements, and monthly ministry/statistical reports. Prepare the Proclaim presentation for the Sunday meeting.
  • Meeting Support: Prepare agendas, take and distribute minutes for staff meetings, Advisory Board meetings, and selected committee sessions.


Program & Volunteer Coordination



  • Ministry Support: Assist Corps Officers with special seasonal events, church programs, and community outreach efforts.
  • Volunteer Oversight: Assist with volunteer tracking, onboarding paperwork, and keeping accurate records of volunteer hours from the church.


Qualifications & Requirements:



  • Mission Alignment: A commitment to the Christian mission and values of The Salvation Army, maintaining a lifestyle that aligns with its standards.
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma required; Associate's degree or higher in business administration, secretarial science, or a related field preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of proven experience in an administrative, clerical, or church office environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), email management, church database software, and standard office equipment.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a polished, professional telephone and interpersonal manner.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions



  • Ability to sit at a desk and look at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds (e.g., handling office boxes or event supplies).
  • Standard professional office environment within the Boise Corps facility.
  • Working evening hours and Sunday
