THE POSITION

As an Administrative Assistant 1 within the Office of Unemployment Compensation Benefits Policy, you will play a key role in helping claimants, staff, and partners get accurate information and timely support. This position offers the chance to grow your skills while assisting an important statewide mission to prevent, detect, and recover overpaid federal and state unemployment compensation (UC) benefits. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the Benefit Payment Control unit by helping manage inquiries, organize information, and ensure that overpayment processes are handled correctly and consistently. The work centers on assisting claimants, reviewing case information, and preparing accurate responses and materials. As an Administrative Assistant 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Inquiry Support: Answer questions from claimants, employers, staff, attorneys, and officials
  • Case Review: Analyze complex claims and resolve issues related to overpayments
  • Correspondence Preparation: Draft letters, emails, and explanations based on unemployment compensation law
  • Record Updates: Update claimant information, prepare lien payoff materials, and maintain accurate records
  • Referral Coordination: Assemble cases for investigatory review and track follow-up actions
  • Office Assistance: Process incoming mail and support daily operational needs within the unit

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may be negotiable.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time after the successful completion of the required probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Such training as may have been gained through graduation from a four year college or university or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This position requires federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID at the time of conditional job offer.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
