About this Role - Field Engineer We are looking for a talented Field Engineer who has a passion for quality construction. This position serves as a primary technical resource and construction engineer for the successful completion of major industrial electrical construction projects. What You'll Do - Work with other project team members, review, understand, and administer contract requirements with primary emphasis on the management of construction documents, field orders, change orders, and close-out documents. - Assist with the development and implementation of job-specific plans and procedures covering safety, scheduling, document control, cost codes, material, and tooling. - Ensure that the project's daily reports and paperwork such as Daily Job Journals, RFI's, Restraints, Timesheets, Extra Work Reports, Purchase Orders, Packing Slips, Tool Reports, etc. are properly maintained and routed - Perform material take-offs and work with Purchasing Department personnel to coordinate submittals and release of procured equipment and materials to site - Design and layout raceway and cable tray systems and supports using hand-sketches, CAD, and 3-D modeling software - Plan and sequence cable pulling activities and calculate pulling tensions - Manage MJE's Envelope System, a custom database system used for work-tracking and work package development. Tasks include generating work packages and cable labels, reviewing and entering termination information, sizing conduits, recording QC information, and generating progress reports - Resolve field installation issues with the project's design engineers and coordinate with other contractors by reviewing and researching drawings and documents - Serve as a technical resource in the areas of electrical codes, other national standards, and project documents and specifications - Track installation progress and report weekly quantities - Inspect field work to ensure installation meets project specifications and MJE's Project Quality Plan - Work with customers and field management to develop and maintain project schedule - Interact with customers with the goal of maintaining a positive long-term business relationship - Be willing to take on very challenging projects and dedicate the time and efforts to ensure a safe, profitable project that ends up with a satisfied customer - Additional responsibilities as determined by supervision and are appropriate for the position What You'll Bring - Superior computer operating skills with an eager heart to learn and implement new and innovative technologies and work methods in the construction industry. A strong proficiency with spreadsheets and database software is a great plus. - Creative problem-solver, able to envision new approaches in processes, procurement, and technology to reduce labor effort and improve project quality - Clarity and confidence in oral and written communications with project staff and senior management - Ability to anticipate and meet internal and external customer needs and willingness to work with people in a variety of positions from apprentice craft worker to senior executive - Proven organizational skills and the ability to work independently to meet project deadlines - Thoughtful communications to maintain confidentiality - Demonstrated supervisory skills - BS/BA in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or Design. Comparable construction work experience will also be considered for qualified candidates. - 1-3 years of related construction experience.
