LAUKOA is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Fabrication Technician to help manage, maintain, and operate the AFCEC Fabrication & Test Support Facility. The position manufactures complex, non-routine parts and RDT&E items from raw stock using conventional tools and contributes to the design, repair, and modification of prototypes, test articles, instrumentation, equipment, and unique project components. Job Description / Summary of Duties:



  • Apply skilled methods and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify structures and components from initial layout to final assembly using complex plans, blueprints, and codes
  • Plan and lay out welding assignments and perform welding operations; determine supplies for sheet metal structures, articles, parts, and assemblies; evaluate and classify structural sheet metal damage on site
  • Develop patterns and form sheet metal into cylindrical, tapered, conical, and irregular shapes; apply radial-line and parallel-line development; fabricate seams (dovetail, set-in-bottom, burred-bottom, wire, lock); fabricate templates; assemble stainless steel, black iron, galvanized iron, terne-plate, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, and alloy components with bolts, screws, and lock seams; apply riveting and soldering techniques
  • Manufacture, install, and repair cylindrical, square, and rectangular objects; select metal type/thickness, cut, bend, form, flange, and fit; repair dents, holes, and corrosion; fabricate reinforcing patch plates, doublers, and reinforcement angles; integrate fabricated and prefabricated parts into fully operational systems
  • Perform the full range of welding processes on all metals and alloys, including dissimilar metals and water/air-tight welds, holding dimensions and tolerances to specification for COR spot-check acceptance
  • Operate and maintain slip rolls, box/pan brakes, rotary and crimping/burring/turning/beading machines, waterjet and plasma cutting machines, powder painting equipment, and precision measuring instruments; maintain records of actions taken
  • Provide backup capability in the Machinist and Welder areas


Required Qualifications:



  • High school diploma minimum plus 10 years' experience in a related field, with design or design-participation experience on new or improved items
  • Experience operating CAD/CAM equipment; able to use 2D CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, radial-line/parallel-line development, pattern and template making, welding principles and standards, and metal characteristics (stainless, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys)
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental standards; skill devising special jigs and fixtures; ability to weld dissimilar metals and varied sizes/shapes/thicknesses
  • Experience maintaining equipment and tools
  • NACI; DoD CAC
  • Valid state driver's license
  • U.S. person only
