Job Title: Field Engineer 4

Location(s): Wilkes-Barre, PA

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Field Computer Technician to provide onsite break/fix support for laptops, desktops, and related computer peripherals throughout the assigned service area.

This position requires strong hardware repair experience. Helpdesk-only experience is not sufficient.

The technician will be responsible for traveling to customer locations, diagnosing hardware issues, completing repairs, documenting service activity, and closing service tickets in real time.

Important Compensation & Contract Information

  • This position is subject to applicable overtime discounts:
    • 0.95x for exempt overtime
    • 1.35x for non-exempt overtime
  • A 10% discount applies after six months of service.
  • Mileage incurred while traveling between work locations during the workday is reimbursed according to the applicable mileage policy.
  • Travel from home to the first work location and from the final work location back home is not compensated.
  • Vaccination is not required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide onsite repair and break/fix support for laptops and desktop computers.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware issues in customer environments.
  • Replace components including:
    • Hard drives
    • Motherboards
    • Keyboards
    • LCD/display assemblies
    • Other internal hardware components
  • Perform whole-unit computer swaps when required.
  • Repair or replace PC peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues.
  • Travel throughout the assigned metro and surrounding areas.
  • Close service tickets in real time using the designated call management/ticketing system and company-provided mobile device.
  • Accurately document work performed, time, location, and service activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on laptop and desktop break/fix experience.
  • Strong computer hardware repair experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing laptops and desktop PCs.
  • Experience replacing computer components, particularly motherboards and LCDs.
  • Computer-building experience is preferred.
  • General knowledge of laptop/desktop hardware and software.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic/non-complex technical issues.
  • Must have a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must maintain valid automobile insurance.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively throughout the assigned service area.
  • Must be able to complete required product training.
  • Must pass required drug and background screening.
  • Client and/or governmental clearance may be required.
  • Police/criminal background verification may be required.
Certification Requirement
  • An industry-recognized A+ certification is required.
  • Candidates who do not currently hold the certification may be required to obtain it within 90 days of their start date. Failure to obtain the required certification within the specified timeframe may result in termination.
  • Additional manufacturer-specific computer certifications are required as part of the hiring process. These certifications are provided at no cost to the candidate and must be completed after selection and before the employment start date.
Vehicle & Travel Requirement
This is a highly mobile field-service position.
The selected candidate must:
  • Have their own reliable vehicle.
  • Maintain active automobile insurance.
  • Be willing and able to drive approximately 2-3 hours to customer locations when required.
  • Be prepared to travel up to 100 miles from the primary service location.
  • Have a reliable backup transportation plan in the event their primary vehicle becomes unavailable.

Uber, Lyft, and public transportation are not considered acceptable backup transportation options.

Additional Information

  • Coverage Area: Primarily Wilkes-Barre, PA, with secondary support requirements up to 100 miles from the primary location.
  • Weekly Mileage: Approximately 250-350 miles per week, potentially more.
