Operating Engineer - Healthcare - JLL

What this job involves:

The Operating Engineer - Healthcare position is essential to maintaining the critical infrastructure that supports life-saving healthcare operations. You will be responsible for the electrical installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment and controls, as well as plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems throughout healthcare facilities. This role requires continuous monitoring and assessment of building systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance with healthcare industry standards. Your technical expertise will directly impact patient care environments by ensuring all mechanical and electrical systems operate reliably and efficiently. Working in a healthcare setting, you will play a vital role in maintaining the specialized systems that healthcare providers depend on every day.[

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Oversee and monitor the operation of refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems, making adjustments as needed to ensure proper equipment operation and recording readings
  • Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action while performing preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment
  • Install and repair plumbing, piping, tubing, electrical controls, switching, and motor controls; wire single and three-phase motors; run conduit; pull wiring to machinery and operating parts
  • Conduct routine and ongoing assessments of building systems operations through tests, rounds, and data analysis to assure proper functioning of departmental equipment
  • Install and rebuild pumps, motors, air compressors, and heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors and seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls
  • Complete painting, carpentry, and medical equipment repair under specific infection control conditions while maintaining logs, documenting equipment repairs, closing work orders, and tracking time accurately
  • Comply with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe workspace and providing timely communication with the Operations Manager and Lead Engineer

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or state equivalent with minimum of two years of related trade schooling or two years of college
  • Minimum four years' experience in electrician trade, HVAC/refrigeration trade, or emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, etc.)
  • Skilled in use of tools and machinery required by the position with knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes
  • Physical capability to climb ladders up to 40 feet, lift 60 lbs repeatedly, and frequently walk up and down stairs for inspections and emergency procedures
  • Ability to visually inspect machinery and buildings, detect emergency alarms (auditory and/or visual), and perform equipment inspections in difficult-to-access areas
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports
  • Familiarity with computer equipment and programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cross-functional expertise in multiple trades including electrical, HVAC/refrigeration, plumbing, and emergency backup systems
  • Experience working in healthcare facilities with understanding of infection control protocols and critical system requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player with strong interpersonal skills and hard-working attitude
  • Experience maintaining tools, ordering supplies, and managing inventory for installation and repairs
  • For internal candidates, consistently receiving "meets expectations" job performance reviews
  • Proven ability to assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment

Location:Onsite

Salary: $25.64 to 28.84

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

53,350.00 - 60,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
