About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean of Student Support Services is a senior college-wide leader responsible for advancing an integrated, student-centered approach to access, support, engagement, accountability, safety, and success. The Dean provides strategic and operational leadership for Student Conduct, the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), Career Services, Disability Services, Testing Services, Student Life and Leadership, Basic Needs, and related student support functions.

The Dean leads coordinated responses to complex student concerns, including conduct matters, behavioral intervention and threat assessment, crisis response, non-instructional complaints, and critical student matters. The Dean builds cross-functional partnerships and organizational capacity to remove barriers to student success, strengthen engagement and belonging, and support persistence, completion, and transfer.

Why This Role Matters

Student success depends on more than what happens in the classroom. Students may face barriers related to access, disability, basic needs, personal circumstances, behavior, safety, or career and academic direction-often requiring coordinated institutional support.

The Dean of Student Support Services provides the leadership and infrastructure to ensure these needs are addressed consistently, equitably, and effectively. The role:

*    Connects the student experience across access, support, engagement, belonging, safety, accountability, and completion.
*    Leads complex student matters through thoughtful, timely, and equitable conduct, behavioral intervention, and crisis response.

*    Builds cross-campus partnerships among Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, college operations, district resources, and community agencies.
*    Uses data and assessment to identify gaps, improve services, and guide strategic resource decisions.

At its core, this role ensures students have the support, access, and opportunities they need to succeed-while maintaining clear, equitable standards for safety, accountability, and community responsibility.

Essential Functions

All Student Affairs positions require consistent, full on-site attendance and engagement as an essential job function in order to provide in-person student affairs services, including but not limited to: student advising, support services, case management, programming, student walk-in services, daily operational support and collaboration, etc.-which precludes remote or hybrid work options for any Student Affairs role regardless of position classification.

*    Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Student Support Services portfolio, including Career Services, Disability Services, Testing Services, Student Life and Leadership, and Basic Needs Programming.
*    Establish a cohesive vision, goals, service standards, and measurable outcomes aligned with institutional priorities, student access, engagement, belonging, safety, persistence, and completion.
*    Supervise, develop, coach, and evaluate department leaders and assigned personnel; build high-performing, collaborative, and accountable teams.
*    Integrate services, improve workflows and organizational structures, and lead change initiatives that strengthen the student experience and remove barriers to success.
*    Develop, recommend, administer, monitor, and provide strategic oversight of departmental budgets; establish funding priorities, evaluate resource needs, develop budget proposals, and ensure responsible stewardship of institutional and public resources.
*    Make strategic recommendations regarding staffing, technology, programs, facilities, contracts, and other resources, and identify opportunities to leverage institutional, district, grant, governmental, philanthropic, and community resources.
*    Oversee technology, data systems, and other operational resources to support effective service delivery and informed decision-making.
*    Promote accessible, equitable, inclusive, and student-centered services and foster a culture of care, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
*    Build cross-functional partnerships and represent the college in system-wide, state, and national student success initiatives as appropriate.

25% Program/Operation Implementation - Student Conduct, Behavioral Intervention, Crisis Response, Student Support & Clery-Related Operations

*    Provide senior-level leadership for student conduct, conflict resolution, behavioral intervention, threat assessment, crisis response, and students-of-concern processes, including complex and high-risk matters.

*    Coordinate multidisciplinary responses to complex student circumstances and significant incidents, exercising sound judgment regarding intervention, escalation, referral, emergency response, and institutional action.
*    Lead coordinated systems of support for students experiencing complex circumstances or non-academic barriers, including basic needs, and strengthen referral networks with college, district, governmental, nonprofit, and community partners.
*    Oversee the resolution of non-instructional student complaints and coordinate administrative processes involving deceased students with appropriate sensitivity, confidentiality, and collaboration.
*    Coordinate assigned Clery-related responsibilities with Public Safety, Campus Security Authorities, designated Clery officials, and institutional partners, including identification, documentation, referral, reporting, notifications, and related protocols.
*    Develop, implement, and continuously improve policies, procedures, protocols, and practices across assigned areas.
