Job Description

Plans and implements Therapeutic Recreation interventions to enhance residents' physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being and support daily living and community functioning. Provides mentoring and leadership to non-certified recreation therapists and may assist with supervising TR students. Works independently with limited supervisior

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate residents, develop individualized Therapeutic Recreation plans, document progress, and modify interventions based on resident needs and responses.

  • Plan and facilitate individual and group therapeutic recreation programs using a variety of modalities.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary care plan meetings and communicate resident progress, needs, and treatment plans.

  • Collaborate with the TR team on department planning, operations, and effective service delivery.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies and help ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to TR interns, assistants, volunteers, and non-certified recreation therapists.

  • Maintain professional knowledge and stay current with advances in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Promote quality improvement, patient and staff safety, cultural diversity, and age-appropriate care.

  • Provide courteous, respectful service while meeting residents' physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and organizational policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from college program with major in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), or other professional discipline certification when used in Recreation Therapy activities. Must maintain current certification for continued employment.

  • Verbal communication skills required to lead therapeutic activities.

  • Written communication skills required to complete required documentation.

  • If required by the department or program, must maintain current BCLS or HeartSavers certification.

  • If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience preferred.
