Our Core Values guide everything we do: Every Person Matters | Together We Can Do Great Things | This Is More Than a Job Position Overview The Mechanical Engineering Intern works under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and rotates through different maintenance and reliability functions within the plant. This position provides hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, equipment reliability, precision maintenance, planning, troubleshooting, and mechanical systems. The intern will work alongside maintenance and reliability teams to apply engineering concepts in a working cement plant while gaining practical experience with equipment, maintenance processes, technical documentation, and continuous improvement. What You'll Do
- Assist with equipment inspections, lubrication routes, oil sampling, and other assigned preventative and reliability maintenance activities.
- Accurately document and communicate inspection findings, equipment conditions, and reliability data.
- Assist with equipment condition measurements using tools and technologies such as ultrasound and laser alignment equipment.
- Work alongside maintenance personnel to support the use of precision maintenance procedures and established equipment standards.
- Assist with organizing technical documentation and providing maintenance crews with drawings, equipment specifications, required clearances, torque values, equipment identification, and other technical information.
- Participate in planning and preparing maintenance work to support safe and efficient job execution.
- Create and update CAD drawings as needed using existing sketches, field measurements, or reverse engineering of parts and equipment.
- Research equipment manuals, drawings, specifications, and other technical resources needed to support maintenance activities.
- Assist the reliability team with troubleshooting equipment failures using available documentation, manuals, equipment history, and precision maintenance information.
- Support development of the weekly maintenance plan by reviewing required parts and materials, visiting job sites before work is scheduled, identifying potential issues, and researching technical specifications.
- Assist with identifying required replacement parts and maintaining accurate part information within the stockroom system.
- Support maintenance crews with fieldwork as needed and help provide the technical documentation and precision maintenance information necessary to complete assigned work.
- Assist with the organization, storage, and identification of specialized tools used to maintain plant equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance, reliability, engineering, operations, and stockroom personnel to support assigned projects and maintenance activities.
- Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Follow all Company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures, as well as applicable MSHA regulations.

What You'll Bring Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD-based software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in mechanical equipment, maintenance, and reliability.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings, equipment documentation, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document findings and technical information.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to research and locate technical information using equipment manuals, drawings, specifications, and other available resources.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also completing assigned tasks independently.
- Willingness to learn industrial maintenance practices, mechanical systems, equipment reliability, and precision maintenance techniques.
Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous internship, mechanical, maintenance, manufacturing, or industrial experience is helpful but not required.
- Experience with computer-aided design software is preferred but not required.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM is preferred but not required.
- Interest in industrial maintenance, equipment reliability, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork in an active industrial environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely around industrial equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance crews, reliability personnel, engineers, operations personnel, and other plant team members.
- Commitment to following all Company safety policies, procedures, and applicable MSHA regulations.
