Job Summary SummaryWill support the development of systems and probes being developed for research and clinical applications through all development phases, including design, prototyping, fabrication, validation, utilization, and maintenance. Highly desired qualities are creativity, attention to detail, and experience with biomedical optics. Will participate on multiple projects, and assist in the design and fabrication of , mechanical, and electronic components in new devices, reviewing and documenting the manufacturing process for in-production devices, and troubleshooting the performance of existing systems. No Essential Functions -Design new, mechanical, and electronic components and systems using industry standard design control processes. -Develop complex mechanical systems. -Design, fabricate, and validate mechanical enclosures, mounts, and subassemblies. -Design and implement vibration, thermal, and environmental testing methods. -Produce prototypes of new optical, mechanical, and electronic components and systems. -Document new and existing parts and procedures to facilitate manufacturing. -Validate the conformance of components and systems to specifications. -Troubleshoot and take corrective action for components and systems not meeting specifications. Qualifications Education Additional Job Details (if applicable) About the Traverso Lab The Traverso lab (Lab 4 Translational Engineering - L4TE) is focused on translational medicine. Our main goal is to help people through the use of medicine and engineering. Research projects involve medical devices that can range from diagnostic, drug delivery, surgical, and implantable devices. This position will require direct on-boarding and will be stationed at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston but will involve work with a multidisciplinary team from across the different MIT/Harvard/BWH institutions. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Mechatronics/Mechanical/Biomedical Research Engineer to oversee and continuously develop the laboratory's engineering fabrication and prototyping space while supporting the development of next-generation biomedical technologies. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the engineering fabrication laboratory, maintain and expand its capabilities, support researchers with prototype development and fabrication, establish best engineering practices, and ensure safe and efficient operation of shared equipment. In addition, this engineer will contribute to the development of custom research instrumentation, automated experimental platforms, and advanced engineering systems that support new translational research initiatives. As our laboratory expands into high-throughput engineering, automation, and scalable research platforms, the successful candidate will play an important role in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems into innovative biomedical research tools.
