Job Description

The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking a Custodian responsible for maintaining assigned facilities in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition. This position performs routine custodial duties, assists with facility and event needs, operates cleaning equipment, and reports maintenance or safety concerns as needed. They work within established procedures and practices to achieve deadlines and maintain consistent standards of cleanliness and service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning and Sanitation (40%)

* Clean and maintain floors, restrooms, offices, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
* Dust, vacuum, mop, sanitize surfaces, empty trash, and replenish supplies.
* Use cleaning products, chemicals, and equipment in accordance with established procedures.

2. Facility and Event Support (25%)

* Prepare and clean facilities for meetings, events, and other activities.
* Set up and break down furniture and equipment as needed.
* Assist with special projects, moves, and emergency clean-up situations.

3. Equipment and Facility Maintenance (20%)

* Operate and perform routine care of custodial equipment and tools.
* Monitor assigned areas for maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns.
* Report facility and equipment issues to appropriate personnel.

4. Safety and Building Support (10%)

* Follow established health, safety, sanitation, and security procedures.
* Assist with locking and unlocking buildings or rooms as assigned.
* Perform occasional seasonal duties, such as snow removal, as needed.

5. Other Duties and Administrative Coordination (5%)

* Provide support for departmental activities and operational needs.
* Performs other duties as assigned by Athletics Administration.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights and Weekends as required by events.

Minimum Qualifications

A job offer for this position is contingent on passing a physical examination to determine if the candidate possesses the physical capabilities necessary to perform the essential functions.
* Ability to read and write.
* A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.
* One year of general maintenance and/or custodial experience preferred.
* Some knowledge of methods for cleaning equipment and buildings; mechanical ability for minor repair of equipment.
* Ability on a daily basis to:
- Visualize work area and determine what tasks need to be performed
- Bend, squat, reach, stretch, walk, stand, sit, grasp and twist repeatedly
- Climb stairs, step stools, and ladders; climb and descend stairwells
- Lift, carry, and set down objects of moderate weight (25- 50 lbs.)
* Work may include one or more of the following:
- Working in areas of extreme temperatures
- Wearing a backpack vacuum for long periods of time
- Wearing protective mask and hearing protection devices
- Working around dust and cleaning chemicals
* Good physical coordination and mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior custodial experience is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $15.55 - $18.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-C

University Title: Custodian II
