Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Support Associate within the Radiation Oncology Department, Shen Laboratory at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Support Associate will gain foundational research skills and training in genomic instability. Responsibilities include reviewing, providing quality control, and analyzing study data. The incumbent will assist with technical laboratory operations, execution of experiments, and the preparation of materials for publication, while learning appropriate scientific methods and procedures under the guidance of senior lab staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Carries out research activities under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI), including data collection, analysis, and documentation. Responsible for executing laboratory tasks as outlined by the Principal Investigator or a senior member of laboratory team.
- Performs functions as directed for experiments that are proposed in the grant, under the direction of the principal investigator and other designated lab members.
- Utilizes computer skills, equipment, and technology to support the project, and maintains project-related databases.
- Summarizes scientific research process and communicate project findings.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Marine Biology or a relevant science field, required.

- Effective oral and communication skills.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

- Prior research experience is an asset.
- College course work in genetics, cancer biology, molecular biology, and some experience with computational biology are preferred.

| Physical Demands and Work Environment |
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory work environment, with moderate noise. Exposure to biological specimens (cells, blood, tissues etc.) with possible exposure to infectious diseases, exposure to hazardous chemicals including therapeutic drugs. Laboratory environment operates under mandatory universal safety precaution. |
