Design Engineering Intern (Electrical)

We're looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Design Engineering Intern (Electrical) to join our team in Summer 2027.

This role will support the Design Engineering team in developing, testing, and documenting electronic products, test fixtures, and product improvements. This position provides hands-on experience with circuit design, PCB development, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional product development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with schematic design, circuit analysis, simulation, and PCB layout for new and existing products.
  • Support electrical component research, evaluation, selection, and qualification.
  • Create and maintain component libraries and design data within electronic design tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
  • Develop and update bills of materials (BOMs), electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and debug prototypes using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, function generators, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with circuit calculations, design verification, and validation testing.
  • Support the development of test procedures, test reports, and other engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, process, and quality teams to ensure designs meet functional, manufacturability, assembly, and testability requirements.
  • Support Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, and Test (DFM/DFT) reviews.
  • Assist with the design, assembly, programming, and validation of electrical test fixtures and automated test equipment.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs), document control, and product revision processes.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, prototype builds, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Follow applicable electrical safety, ESD, quality, and engineering standards.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout software (Altium Designer, KiCad, Eagle, or similar)
  • Understanding of electronics fundamentals including analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience with lab equipment and hands-on prototyping
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion for electronics and eagerness to learn in a practical, team-based setting
