Minimum Experience/Education

Position Purpose
North Carolina A&T State University periodically has temporary staffing needs to support the operations of the University Department of Police and Public Safety. This recruitment is intended to identify qualified candidates for Temporary Reserve Police Officer opportunities as staffing needs arise.
Temporary Reserve Police Officers provide supplemental law enforcement and public safety services to support the University's mission of maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. Assignments may include support for campus operations, special events, athletic competitions, commencement ceremonies, concerts, conferences, and other university-sponsored activities. Work schedules will vary based on departmental needs and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations.
Potential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Performing law enforcement and public safety duties in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as University policies and procedures.
- Conducting routine patrols of campus property by foot, bicycle, or vehicle to protect life and property.
- Responding to calls for service, emergencies, criminal incidents, safety concerns, and other public safety matters.
- Enforcing state laws, University regulations, and campus policies.
- Assisting with crowd management, traffic control, parking enforcement, and security operations during athletic events, special events, and other large gatherings.
- Conducting preliminary investigations, collecting information, and preparing reports related to incidents and law enforcement activities.
- Providing assistance and information to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and members of the public.
- Supporting emergency preparedness, crisis response, and community policing initiatives.
- Collaborating with campus departments and external public safety agencies to maintain a secure campus environment.
- Testifying in court proceedings and administrative hearings as required.
- Maintaining departmental equipment, uniforms, vehicles, and required certifications.
- Performing other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Additional Information
Specific duties, assignments, schedules, and work hours will vary depending on operational needs and the nature of the assignment. Selected candidates may be assigned to patrol operations, special events, emergency response functions, or other public safety activities.
