Systems Engineer

Oceaneering International, Inc.
United States, Texas, Houston
Oct 01, 2026

Purpose

The Senior Systems Engineer provides hands-on systems engineering leadership across complex, multidisciplinary programs. The role initially supports new product development by establishing clear stakeholder needs, requirements, architecture, interfaces, system behavior, and verification planning, with progressive application to project execution and asset management. This position independently leads priority work and helps build practical, reusable systems engineering capability.

Functions

ESSENTIAL

  • Systems Engineering Leadership: Independently lead systems engineering activities for complex, multidisciplinary programs, initially supporting NPD and progressively expanding into project execution and asset management.

  • Needs and Operational Definition: Facilitate the definition of stakeholder needs, system context and boundaries, operating environments, Concept of Operations, use cases, and operational scenarios.

  • Requirements Development and Management: Develop and maintain requirements, requirements allocation, the controlled baseline, and traceability throughout the supported product lifecycle. Coordinate technical content and approvals with project stakeholders and designated technical owners.

  • Architecture, Behavior, and Interfaces: Develop and maintain functional, logical, and physical architectures, functional decompositions, FFBDs, system block diagrams, behavioral models, and interface control documents, including system-level software functions, data flows, dependencies, and hardware-software interactions.

  • Baseline and Change Control: Serve as the authorized custodian of the controlled requirements baseline and associated systems-engineering artifacts. Coordinate impact assessments and stakeholder reviews, implement approved changes, and maintain affected artifacts and traceability.

  • Verification, Validation, and Compliance: Define verification methods and acceptance criteria, coordinate responsibilities, maintain requirements-to-evidence traceability, and track compliance and unresolved gaps. Technical disciplines retain ownership of their respective analyses, qualification activities, testing, and technical conclusions.

  • Specialty Engineering and Technical Assurance: Integrate reliability, safety, maintainability, cybersecurity, human factors, quality, and other specialty-engineering inputs into the system definition. Identify deficiencies and technical risks, recommend corrective actions, and escalate significant unresolved issues.

  • Project and External Support: Support multiple projects based on business priority and technical risk, and participate in customer, supplier, and partner discussions involving requirements, architecture, interfaces, verification strategy, and acceptance criteria.

  • Capability Building and Mentorship: Develop practical methods, templates, and guidance; apply structured requirements-management tools; review technical work; coach teams; and promote consistent systems-engineering practices.

NON-ESSENTIAL

  • Other duties as assigned.
