Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support stormwater engineering feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and conceptual designs for stormwater capture and diversion projects, green infrastructure, low impact development (LID), drywells, infiltration systems, diversion-to-sewer concepts, and multi-benefit BMPs.
- Perform and support hydrologic and hydraulic analyses/modeling for watersheds, urban drainage systems, public rights-of-way, and facility-based stormwater projects using tools such as SWMM/PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, MODRAT, SBPAT, WMMS/LSPC, ArcGIS, and related platforms.
- Contribute to watershed planning, water quality improvement planning, Reasonable Assurance Analyses (RAAs), Enhanced Watershed Management Programs (EWMPs), and implementation strategies that integrate water quality, water supply, climate resilience, equity, and community benefits.
- Prepare engineering calculations, GIS analyses, technical memoranda, feasibility reports, conceptual design packages, cost estimates, monitoring plans, permit-support materials, and client-ready presentation materials.
- Support municipal and industrial NPDES permit compliance, MS4 permit implementation, SWPPP updates, monitoring and reporting programs, TMDL implementation planning, and Regional Water Quality Control Board coordination.
- Coordinate with public agencies, watershed groups, regulators, facility owners, community stakeholders, subconsultants, and interdisciplinary project teams to advance technically sound, implementable, and fundable stormwater solutions.
- Serve as a task lead or deputy project manager on selected assignments, supporting scope development, schedules, budgets, work planning, QA/QC coordination, junior staff guidance, proposal support, and delivery of high-quality technical work products.
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering (or closely related discipline) with coursework/emphasis in water resources, stormwater, hydrology/hydraulics. (required)
- Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, data science/analytics, or a closely related discipline. (preferred)
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in California preferred, or ability to obtain California licensure by comity/reciprocity when eligible.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 5 years (7+ years preferred) of related stormwater, water resources, civil/environmental engineering, or watershed planning experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Experience supporting stormwater feasibility studies, conceptual design, BMP siting/prioritization, green infrastructure or LID planning, stormwater capture/diversion projects, watershed planning, and/or water quality improvement programs. (required)
- Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling/design tools such as SWMM/PCSWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MODRAT, SBPAT, WMMS/LSPC, or similar platforms. (required)
- Working knowledge of California municipal stormwater programs, MS4/NPDES permit requirements, TMDLs, WQIPs/EWMPs, RAAs, SWPPPs, monitoring plans, and Regional Water Quality Control Board processes. (preferred)
- Strong GIS, data analysis, technical writing, engineering judgment, task coordination, and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical findings for technical and non-technical audiences. (required)
- Experience preparing feasibility reports, technical memoranda, conceptual design documents, cost estimates, funding-support materials, permit-support documents, and client presentations. (required)
- Experience coordinating with municipalities, county agencies, regulators, transportation agencies, water/wastewater agencies, community organizations, and interdisciplinary teams. (preferred)
- Experience serving as a task lead, deputy project manager, or technical lead, including coordination of deliverables, budgets, schedules, QA/QC reviews, stakeholder input, and junior staff support. (preferred)
- Familiarity with Southern California stormwater funding programs, multi-benefit project prioritization, public engagement, climate resilience planning, and equity-focused water resources planning. (preferred)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and travel to project sites or client facilities as needed. (required)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
- Minimum Salary: $97,255/year / Maximum Salary: $145,940/year (San Diego, CA)
