Day to Day Responsibilities of this Position and Description of Project/Assignment? - interact with patients. Draw blood specimens for client as well as process client collected specimens. Will be responsible for keeping accurate patient manifest and remaining in compliance with the company.


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist III to perform high-volume blood collection and specimen processing in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic phlebotomy experience and be comfortable collecting specimens from patients of all ages, while maintaining accurate patient information, specimen identification, and compliance with established procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Perform approximately 10-20 blood draws per day using venipuncture and capillary collection techniques.
  • Perform blood draws on patients across different age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
  • Use straight needles and butterfly needles as appropriate.
  • Properly explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Verify physician orders and ensure accurate patient identification before specimen collection.
  • Match laboratory requisitions and computer-generated labels with specimen tubes to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements.
  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis.
  • Package and transport specimens according to established protocols while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Store specimens at the appropriate temperature and in the correct collection containers/tubes.
  • Maintain accurate patient manifests, specimen logs, and other required records.
  • Process client-collected specimens as required.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record maintenance data and perform required decontamination activities.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information as appropriate.
  • Follow all established company, laboratory, OSHA, and DEP requirements.
  • Attend required annual department training and complete approximately 1 week of initial training.
  • Make workflow recommendations and assist with troubleshooting and training as needed.
  • Maintain a professional and patient-centered approach when interacting with patients, healthcare staff, and team members.
  • Work collaboratively with a team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 6 months of hands-on venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Experience performing blood draws on patients of all ages.
  • Experience with specimen labeling, processing, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging.
  • Strong patient-care and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate patient and specimen records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work onsite and stand intermittently throughout the day, approximately 2-3 hours total.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be able to meet required color vision standards.
  • THC screening required.
  • Phlebotomy certification may be required depending on state requirements; no specific certification is required for this position.

    * How long is the worker expected to stand? On and off throughout the day. Total of maybe 2-3 hours

    * Will this person work with a team or alone? Alone but along side client MAs


    How many weeks of training is required at the start of this role? At least two weeks. One week off site in Lincoln. One week on site with trainer.
