HJF is seeking an Administrative Assistant II - Murtha Cancer Center to perform a wide range of administrative and clerical duties for the department. This position will be in support of the Murtha Cancer Center Research Programs (MCCRP) and the Clinical Breast Care Project (CBCP) located at 6720A Rockledge Drive in Bethesda, MD.

The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, Tri-Service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologist and other cancer trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our cancer center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Provides direct administrative support under the direction of the supervisor and assists with other assigned duties, including participating in role-required training.
  • Assists with and coordinates travel arrangements as directed. Provides administrative support for MCC/CBCP-sponsored events and meetings.
  • Schedules video/conference calls, sends meeting invites, and distributes meeting information as appropriate. Maintains the MCC/CBCP leave calendar.
  • Sets up and maintains department files. Assists with initiating, organizing, and completing department projects.
  • Performs typing assignments and proofreads all work, including meeting agendas, minutes, and transcripts.
  • Enters purchase requests and obtains quotes for materials and services in compliance with government regulations and HJF policies and procedures. Tracks and ensures orders are received in the system.
  • Submits HJF tickets for IT, Graphics, Support Services, and Building Facilities via various online portals.
  • Assists with the onboarding process for new staff members.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effectively communicate with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $25.38 - $33.65. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
