Mechanical Technician Location:Fremont, CA Schedule/Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m Pay:$25.00 per hour 26-10774 Job Summary The Mechanical Technician / Production Technician operates and maintains a cryogenic Air Separation Unit (ASU) to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant production. This hands-on position monitors plant processes through SCADA, HMI, and PLC systems and performs troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration on compressors, pumps, turbines, valves, motors, instrumentation, and other plant equipment. The technician is also responsible for maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, accurate production records, and safe operating practices. - Monitor and maintain the safe operation of a cryogenic Air Separation Unit and associated plant equipment.
- Operate SCADA, HMI, PLC, DCS, and other computer-based control systems to monitor and adjust plant processes.
- Control process flows, purities, pressures, and production rates to support customer requirements and plant efficiency.
- Perform complex plant operations, including DERIME and warm plant start-ups.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and operating documentation.
- Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and proactive maintenance throughout the facility.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and calibrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and instrumentation systems.
- Maintain and repair compressors, pumps, turbines, valves, motors, electrical equipment, control valves, and related plant equipment.
- Identify potential equipment or process problems using plant data and determine when immediate maintenance action is required.
- Perform quality assurance activities and maintain product quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate plant readings, maintenance records, calibration records, production documentation, and other required records.
- Support environmental, safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Assist with safety incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Work with management to improve plant reliability, production efficiency, operating costs, and overall facility performance.
- Perform administrative duties related to requisitions, purchasing, production accounting, purchase order closure, receiving, and timekeeping.
- Use common hand tools and test equipment to diagnose, repair, and replace equipment as needed.
- Work independently while maintaining continuous attention to plant operations and equipment conditions.
Job Requirements
- 2+ years of experience operating an Air Separation Plant or related industrial equipment/environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical, electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and process equipment issues independently.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to recognize process abnormalities, interpret equipment malfunctions, and make sound operating and maintenance decisions.
- Experience using common hand tools and electrical/mechanical test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Ability to work independently and maintain continuous mental and visual attention while operating equipment and performing repairs.
- Ability to work overtime, off shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation to support uninterrupted plant operations.
- Ability to work alone when required.
- Commitment to safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Previous military technical experience or technical training is applicable.
- Basic understanding of water treatment principles and equipment is a plus.
- Basic understanding of refrigeration systems is a plus.
- Basic understanding of air separation processes and related technologies is a plus.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of technical college or equivalent military technical experience preferred.

- Full-time position with standard Monday-Friday hours.
- Initial schedule may be 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with potential 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. start times.
- Weekend coverage is not expected at the start of the assignment but may be required as needed.
- Overtime and off-shift work may be required.
- Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
