Job Description

The Missouri Water Center (MWC) seeks to recruit a highly motivated scientist to join the MWC team. The scientist plays a crucial role in MWC's mission to conduct cutting-edge water and environmental research. This position involves a balance of technical expertise in instrument maintenance and management, educational responsibilities, and active research participation. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that our research instruments are operational, accessible, and used to their full potential, while also contributing to our broader water research goals.

Responsibilities include:

Research Participation:

-Engage in water and environmental research projects, utilizing the instruments to gather and analyze data.
-Collaborate with MWC faculty to prepare proposals, design and implement research, and publish research results.

Instrument Maintenance and Management:

-Conduct regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of research instruments to ensure optimal performance.
-Manage the scheduling and usage of instruments to facilitate efficient access for MWC research projects.
-Develop and implement protocols for instrument use, including fee schedules, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
-Liaise with vendors and technicians for instrument repairs, upgrades, and acquisitions.
-Ensure all instrument-related activities comply with the University of Missouri Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and government regulations.

Training and Education:

-Design and deliver training sessions for students, postdocs, and other researchers on the proper use and care of research instruments.
-Provide ongoing support and mentorship to users, ensuring they can effectively leverage the instruments for their research needs.
-Develop educational materials, such as manuals and online resources, to assist users in learning about the instruments.

Administrative Duties:

-Maintain comprehensive records of instrument usage, maintenance activities, and training sessions.
-Assist in budgeting for instrument-related expenses, including maintenance contracts and equipment purchases.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for PhD in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or Natural resources

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $53,976 - $65,000 per year

Grade: GGS 010
