Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager of Pastoral Care, Required Board Certified Chaplain - Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for the day-to-day direction and management of Spiritual Care operations, including provision of pastoral/spiritual care services and hospitality services. Manages all aspects of coordinating, scheduling, maintaining, and organizing services in collaboration with relevant departments, while providing operational and administrative support to the Director.
Job Responsibilities:
To design and execute a systemic, multi-staff model for the provision of pastoral/spiritual care services and education throughout NYU Langone-Brooklyn.
To commit to continuing education self and staff, centered on continuous development of effective skills in contemporary professional chaplaincy.
To encourage and support research activities through staff and/or students which assess effectiveness of pastoral/spiritual care services, develop tools for benchmarking productive staffing patterns and promote continuous quality improvement in pastoral care services.
To foster a climate of education and coordinate whole-person/spiritual care in-service programming for multidisciplinary staff, clinical students, community clergy, volunteers, and the wider community. To assure that all students in programs of Clinical Pastoral Education, interns, and others learning the art of pastoral/spiritual care function within clear institutional/clinical guidelines and a plan of administrative coordination, accountability and support.
To monitor and effectively measure clinical outcomes relative to the contributions of pastoral/spiritual care services, through collaboration with multidisciplinary managers and caregivers.
To serve as the primary organizational and financial manager of the Department of Pastoral Care, accountable for sound stewardship of budget, physical, and human resources.
Responsible for data analysis compilation and reporting to include annual reports to support organizational goals and initiatives.
To maintain full compliance with all standards of ethics, performance, certification and accreditation, as established by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and all relevant professional associations and accrediting agencies.
To promote and oversee meaningful, timely, community-oriented worship life throughout the healthcare system, in ways that nurture interfaith respect, understanding and participation.
To oversee the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers from diverse religio-cultural communities who can provide bi-lingual, faith-group-specific care to patients, residents, and families.
To oversee a comprehensive pastoral/spiritual care program for trauma, crisis, and disaster response ministries, servicing the Emergency Department, Critical Care Units, Emergency Management Systems, and wider healthcare system.
Work closely with the educator to ensure a well-developed Clinical Pastoral Education program is developed according to the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education standards.
To integrate and strengthen pastoral care services in death, dying and bereavement throughout the system, including organ/tissue donation, follow-up bereavement letters to all families, periodic memorial services, and referral to grief support groups.
To develop effective/efficient means for the documentation of spiritual care activities and services, through such measures as spiritual assessment, progress entries in medical records, logging on-call activities, etc.
Provides on-call spiritual care coverage in accordance with departmental policies and organizational standards.
To develop and implement a comprehensive practice of conducting initial visits and individualized spiritual assessment with as many patients as possible. To establish a means for effective risk screening which identifies individuals whose spiritual/theological anguish/conflicts may compromise treatment, recovery, or whole person health.
To promote religio-cultural competence and seek to safeguard all patients, residents, families and staff from unwelcome proselytizing or forms of spiritual intrusion. To facilitate the interpretation of diverse faith expressions and cultural/ritual practices as they impact clinical services
To provide direct pastoral care service and serve as one of the key institutional catalysts/leaders in setting a climate of mission-driven, culturally competent spiritual care through quality relationships with patients, residents, families, staff, volunteers, and students.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a B.A. and M.Div. degrees (or equivalent masters level degree from accredited seminary/graduate prof. school)
Minimum 4 units of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education.
3-5 years full-time experience in healthcare ministry
APC, NACC, NAJC, or ACPE certified;Ecclesiastical endorsement from recognized denomination
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree and recent supervisory experience working in a healthcare environment and knowledge of HCAHPs Patient Satisfaction surveys is preferred. Experience leading professionals in improvement programs. Knowledge of instructional design and health literacy in the healthcare setting.
