Title: Safety Manager Reports to: Vice President, Operations Customers served: Any member of the Summit team, all customers, vendors, suppliers, guests, applicants, manufacturer's representatives, and any other members of the public. Role Summary: At Summit Electric Supply, safety is an important part of how we take care of our associates, customers, and communities. We are seeking a Safety Manager to support and strengthen our safety culture while promoting safe and compliant operations across the organization. The Safety Manager is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of safety, health, and environmental programs. This position partners with leaders and associates across the organization to identify and reduce workplace hazards, promote safe work practices, conduct safety training and inspections, investigate incidents, and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is a proactive, collaborative safety professional who can build strong relationships across the organization and translate safety requirements into practical solutions that support both our associates and our business. Essential Job Functions:
- Promote a positive and proactive safety culture through associate engagement, education, coaching, and consistent safety practices.
- Support the development, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of company safety, health, and environmental policies, programs, and procedures.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety and loss-prevention training across company locations and departments.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and operations to identify workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and potential regulatory compliance concerns.
- Conduct and support incident investigations to identify contributing factors and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform risk assessments and partner with operational leaders to identify practical solutions to reduce workplace hazards and prevent incidents.
- Review safety and loss-prevention information to identify trends, recurring hazards, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support initiatives designed to reduce workplace injuries, workers' compensation incidents, general and auto liability incidents, and property losses.
- Provide safety and regulatory guidance to associates and leadership regarding workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, records, reports, and other compliance-related information.
- Coordinate responses to customer HSE requests, including surveys, questionnaires, documentation requests, and on-site assessments.
- Support facility safety reviews and recurring building inspections, including documentation and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Assist with developing and updating safety policies, procedures, training materials, and other safety resources.
- Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and other departments to support safety initiatives and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to reduce risk and strengthen overall safety performance.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- 3+ years of professional experience in workplace safety, environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of occupational safety, loss prevention, and risk management principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local workplace safety regulations.
- Experience conducting workplace safety inspections and identifying potential hazards.
- Experience conducting or supporting incident investigations, including documentation, risk evaluation, and corrective-action recommendations.
- Experience developing, administering, or supporting workplace safety and health programs.
- Ability to effectively communicate safety requirements, expectations, and best practices to associates at varying levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with leaders and associates throughout the organization.
- Ability to travel as needed to support company locations.
Beneficial Skills and Experience:
- Preferred bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management, Business, or a related field.
- Experience working in wholesale distribution, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, or a similar operational environment.
- Experience in developing and delivering employee safety training.
- Experience with incident investigations, risk evaluations, and corrective and preventive action programs.
- Experience supporting workers' compensation and occupational injury programs.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements and other applicable workplace safety regulations.
- Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives and developing or monitoring safety performance metrics.
- Knowledge of risk management systems and tools.
- Relevant professional safety certifications
Physical Challenges:
- Consistent sitting and/or standing for extended periods.
- Regular and consistent use of a computer and keyboard.
- Ability to walk through warehouses, service center, and other operational environments while conducting inspections and safety assessments.
- Ability to occasionally climb stairs.
- Ability to lift 5 pounds on a regular and consistent basis.
- Majority of work is performed inside service center and office environments during regular hours of operation.
- Occasional business travel is required.
- Additional physical requirements may arise based on business and operational needs.
