Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Position Location Arlington, VA (Hybrid) Reports To Chief Executive Officer Travel Approximately 20-30%, based on business-unit needs, customer/industry events, acquisition activity, and leadership meetings. The company supports mission-critical capabilities across airborne sensors and ISR, electronic warfare, precision weapons, radar, air and missile defense, space, and intelligence and information systems. As Falcata enters its next stage of significant organic growth, acquisition activity, and private-equity-backed platform development, the company requires an enterprise marketing and communications leader who can sharpen market positioning, strengthen the brand, build scalable communications capabilities, and support growth and integration across an increasingly complex organization. Position Summary Falcata is seeking a hands-on, business-oriented Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to lead enterprise Marketing and Communications in support of growth, market differentiation, acquisition integration, employee engagement, and long-term enterprise value creation. The CMO will serve as the steward of the company brand and enterprise narrative, translating strategy, capabilities, and mission impact into clear and differentiated messaging for customers, employees, industry partners, prospective talent, investors, and other key stakeholders. The role requires equal strength in strategic marketing, corporate communications, executive counsel, and disciplined execution. The CMO will have executive ownership of brand and market positioning, corporate communications, digital marketing, content and thought leadership, media and public relations, marketing operations, and communications integration for acquisitions. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CMO will work closely with the CFO, CEO, COO, CGO, CPO, Corporate Development, Legal, business-unit leaders, and the broader senior leadership team. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Marketing Strategy and Brand Positioning
- Build and lead an enterprise marketing strategy aligned with Falcata's growth priorities, target markets, differentiated capabilities, acquisition strategy, and private-equity value-creation objectives.
- Own enterprise brand architecture, positioning, messaging, visual identity, and brand standards, ensuring consistency across business units, acquired companies, customer touchpoints, and digital channels.
- Translate complex technical capabilities and mission outcomes into clear value propositions and compelling narratives for government customers, partners, industry stakeholders, and prospective talent.
- Use market, customer, competitive, digital, campaign insights to refine positioning, prioritize investment, and measure marketing effectiveness.
Corporate Communications and Reputation
- Lead corporate communications, including enterprise announcements, executive communications, media relations, public relations, external messaging, and major company events.
- Advise the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on communication strategies for significant business developments, acquisitions, organizational changes, sensitive issues, and reputation matters.
- Own crisis and issues communications in partnership with Legal, Security, Operations, Human Capital, and other functional leaders, with clear escalation protocols and coordinated internal and external messaging.
- Develop proactive thought-leadership and executive-visibility strategies that strengthen Falcata's reputation in the defense technology and government contracting markets.
Growth Enablement and Market Engagement
- Partner closely with the CGO and business-unit leaders to develop market-facing content, capability narratives, customer presentations, digital assets, trade-show strategy, and other tools that support business development and capture efforts.
- Establish clear operating boundaries with Growth: Marketing owns enterprise brand, messaging, content, channels, and marketing infrastructure; Growth retains accountability for pipeline, capture, customer relationships, and revenue execution.
- Build scalable processes for campaign planning, account-based marketing, events, sponsorships, web and social channels, and marketing collateral appropriate for a B2G and B2B defense environment.
- Measure marketing contribution through practical metrics such as brand reach, engagement, content utilization, campaign performance, digital analytics, and support to strategic growth priorities.
Employee and Internal Communications
- Lead enterprise internal communications in partnership with the CPO, CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and business leaders, ensuring employees understand company strategy, priorities, major changes, and the connection between their work and the mission.
- Develop a disciplined communications cadence across enterprise announcements, leadership messaging, town halls, digital channels, and major organizational initiatives.
- Partner with Human Capital on employer brand, talent communications, culture initiatives, and employee-facing messaging while maintaining clear ownership of people programs within the CPO organization.
M&A, Integration, and Platform Scaling
- Partner with Corporate Development, the COO-led Integration Management Office, Human Capital, Legal, Growth, and business leaders across the M&A lifecycle, including diligence support, Day 1 communications, brand decisions, and post-close integration.
- Assess acquired-company brands, market positioning, websites, communications channels, collateral, stakeholder audiences, and related risks and opportunities.
- Develop repeatable acquisition communications and brand-integration playbooks that preserve customer and employee confidence while moving acquired businesses toward the Falcata enterprise identity at the appropriate pace.
- Support sponsor and Board communications related to brand, market positioning, communications risk, major launches, and marketing performance as appropriate.
Marketing Operations, Digital Platforms, and Performance
- Build the marketing and communications operating model, including organization design, agency/vendor strategy, budget, systems, governance, editorial processes, approval workflows, and performance reporting.
- Own enterprise digital presence, including website strategy, social media, digital content, analytics, and marketing technology, in coordination with IT/Cybersecurity and Legal.
- Establish practical policies and review protocols for public-facing content, use of customer/program information, trademarks, photography, social media, and other external communications in a classified and regulated environment.
- Create a high-performing function with clear accountability, scalable processes, strong talent, and disciplined prioritization without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Executive Leadership and Organizational Capability
- Serve as a trusted business partner to the CEO, COO, CGO, and Executive Leadership Team on brand, reputation, communications, market positioning, and enterprise value creation.
- Build and lead a high-performing Marketing and Communications organization with clear roles, leadership depth, operating cadence, and measurable performance expectations.
- Develop annual budgets, staffing plans, agency strategies, technology priorities, and investment cases aligned with company growth and value-creation priorities.
- Present relevant trends, risks, performance, and recommendations to executive leadership, the Board, sponsor representatives, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, corporate communications, brand strategy, public relations, or related functions, including significant responsibility in complex B2B, B2G, technology, defense, aerospace, or government contracting environments.
- 5+ years in a senior executive or enterprise functional leadership role such as Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Communications Officer, SVP/VP Marketing, SVP/VP Communications, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated success building enterprise brand and marketing strategies that support growth, market differentiation, reputation, and executive positioning.
- Significant experience leading corporate communications, executive communications, media/public relations, and sensitive or crisis communications.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex technical, engineering, mission, and government-customer subject matter to multiple audiences with clarity and credibility.
- Experience building scalable marketing and communications operating models, including teams, agencies, budgets, digital platforms, governance, metrics, and content processes.
- Proven experience supporting M&A announcements, brand integration, organizational change, or post-close communications.
- Strong executive judgment, writing, storytelling, influence, analytical capability, and ability to operate effectively with senior leaders, technical teams, customers, advisors, and Board or sponsor stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in defense, aerospace, government contracting, advanced technology, engineering, mission systems, or other complex technical businesses.
- Experience in a private-equity-backed company or an organization scaling through both organic growth and multiple acquisitions.
- Demonstrated understanding of the government contracting market, including the relationship among brand, customer engagement, business development, capture, recruiting, and reputation.
- Experience managing enterprise rebranding, company-name transitions, acquisition brand architecture, or integration of multiple legacy brands.
- Experience with digital marketing platforms, web analytics, CRM/marketing automation, social media, content management systems, and performance dashboards.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Business, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
