Job Summary

The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position in the Engineering Partnership Program (EPP) at Western Colorado University (WCU). This position is based at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado and is anticipated to begin in August 2027.

We seek an educator committed to excellence in undergraduate engineering education, hands-on learning, and student success in a small-campus environment.

This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Teaching Professor rank.

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) offers bachelor's degrees in biomedical engineering at Western Colorado University (WCU) through the Engineering Partnership Program (EPP). This partnership allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from CU Boulder while taking all courses at WCU in Gunnison, Colorado.

The first two years of the program are taught by WCU faculty and the second two years are taught by CU Boulder faculty who live and work in Gunnison full time.

In addition to smaller classes and lower overall tuition, EPP students can take advantage of career fairs, research programs and other opportunities on the CU Boulder campus. When the time comes, students are also invited to join the graduation ceremonies in Boulder.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • The successful candidate will teach upper-division undergraduate biomedical engineering courses which may include:
    • Biotransport;
    • Biomedical Instrumentation;
    • Anatomy and Physiology for Biomedical Engineering;
    • Senior Design/Capstone;
    • Other courses aligned with program needs and candidate's expertise.
  • This position has responsibilities for teaching five undergraduate engineering courses per academic year. In addition to teaching, responsibilities of this position also include:
    • Student mentoring and advising;
    • Service on EPP and university committees;
    • Accreditation assessment and continuous improvement activities;
    • Industry outreach and partnership development;
    • Recruitment and retention efforts;
    • Professional development and scholarly engagement.
  • Provide service to the Engineering Partnership Program by serving on EPP committees, engaging in evaluation activities for program accreditation, mentoring and advising students, engaging in outreach, recruiting, and professional development, and fostering and maintaining relationships with industry.
  • The typical distribution of work for this role is 80% teaching and 20% leadership and service.

  • The anticipated start date for this position is in August 2027, but a later start date may be negotiated.
  • The position is employed by the University of Colorado Boulder but based full-time on the campus of Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a multi-year contract which may be renewable; specific term length will vary based on start date.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank is $90,000 - $105,000 academic year salary.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for the Associate Teaching Professor rank. The salary range for this position at the Associate Teaching Professor rank is $105,000 - $115,000 academic year salary.
  • A relocation stipend is available within CEAS guidelines.

What We Require

  • Candidate must have a doctorate degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field conferred by the time they start in their faculty role.
OR
  • A master's degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field with either:
    • (i) at least 3 years of experience working in a related industry, or
    • (ii) a minimum of 3 years of teaching engineering or a closely related field at a higher education level.
For a candidate to be considered for appointment to the Associate Teaching Professor rank, the applicant must also have a minimum of 6 years of teaching engineering at a higher education level and meet unit criteria at this level.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Prior teaching experience in biomedical engineering.
  • Experience with project-based learning.
  • Experience developing industry partnerships.
  • ABET assessment or accreditation experience.
  • Experience advising student design teams.
  • Professional engineering or related professional credentials.
  • Experience teaching both lecture and laboratory courses.
