| Position Summary |
The
Auxiliary Services Academic Liaison serves as a strategic, relationship focused partner between the
UGA Bookstore, university faculty, academic departments, campus leadership, and Auxiliary Services to support intentional, timely, and affordable course materials selection aligned with instructional goals and student success.
This role promotes and sustains the effective use of the
UGA Bookstore's online adoption platform and related academic resources. The Liaison works collaboratively with faculty to explore and implement course material options-including print, digital, Open Educational Resources (
OER), and access programs-that balance instructional intent, affordability, access, and compliance requirements.
Through individual consultations, group engagement, and targeted outreach, the Liaison strengthens faculty awareness, participation, and confidence in course materials adoption while staying attune to the resources provided by the contracted vendor to be a communications and support bridge between the two. Success in the role requires the ability to navigate complex academic environments with credibility and discretion; communicate clearly and collaboratively across diverse stakeholders; and foster trust-based partnerships that reflect academic culture and shared governance.
In collaboration with the
UGA Bookstore and Course Materials teams, the Liaison helps translate academic decisions into effective operational execution, ensuring continuity from planning through delivery. The position draws on strong organizational, analytical, and technical competencies to manage multiple priorities, uphold institutional, state, and federal requirements, and advance the mission of Auxiliary Services while centering faculty support, student affordability, and academic success. |
| Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of constituents. Includes but not limited to faculty, administration, parents, and students, as well as campus guests and prospective students/parents.
- Ability to work independently using sound judgement within general policy and procedural guidelines while ensuring that program progress updates are shared when requested and scheduled.
- In partnership with Bookstore/Course Materials leadership; presents, interacts, and influences faculty, department chairs and Administration on course materials adoption utilization and ensuring resolution for escalated issues, including input for strategy and goal development for the department and/or store.
- Ability to conduct professional presentations and training to individuals, as well as groups (presenting individually and as part of a team) using detailed information to ensure that the Bookstore Course Materials program is understood and the benefits of the program are clear to all parties. Builds understanding between parties with varying priorities to ensure the best outcome for the University and students. Ability to support the Bookstore Course Materials Department Team members to ensure that the course materials program seamlessly functions from adoption through purchase.
- Proficiency in office practices, procedures, equipment and with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as the ability to master UGA Course Materials Adoption Tools and Programs.
- Learn and adapt to changing technology (UGA and non-UGA) and equipment used in the performance of assigned duties.
- Strong attention to detail, and ability to utilize discretion with confidential information.
- Ability to collaborate with team members as well as Bookstore Management and employees, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills are integral to this position.

Academic Liaison, Faculty Engagement & Affordability Leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison between Auxiliary Services, academic departments, and other university units regarding the course materials adoption program (Follett Discover), digital courseware, supply requirements, affordability initiatives, and other tools that support academic success and/or textbook affordability.
- Conduct departmental workshops and one-on-one training sessions on adoption software (e.g., Follett Discover) and other initiatives as they arise.
- Build and maintain a broad network of relationships with faculty, department administrators, and college leadership to support course materials planning and adoption.
- Consult with faculty individually and in groups to discuss course material options aligned with instructional goals, including print, digital, OER, and access programs. Promote and support affordability and access initiatives as integral elements of academic success.
- Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities related to course materials and communicate insights to Auxiliary Services and campus partners, and challenges of the academic community.
- Regularly schedules and hosts academic departmental informational sessions to educate faculty about adoption processes and new learning resources.
- Consults with faculty on cost-effective course material alternatives, custom content, and/or digital solutions.
