About the Role:

The Intermediate Print Process Engineer plays a critical role in the development of new materials and print process parameters for polymer and wax-based applications on 3D Systems' MultiJet Printing (MJP) platforms. As a member of the Print Process Development Team within the Materials Development Group, this individual will contribute to the advancement of innovative additive manufacturing solutions by optimizing materials and printing processes to achieve superior product performance, quality, and reliability.

This role is integral to the successful integration of key system components, including hardware, software, and materials, ensuring seamless functionality and performance across MJP technologies. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop, validate, and implement new materials and process technologies that support product innovation and business growth. Based in Wilsonville, Oregon, this position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies and play a key role in shaping the future of 3D Systems' materials and printing solutions.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Conduct hands-on research and development activities involving MultiJet Printing (MJP) systems and materials. This is a highly collaborative, laboratory-based role that requires regular on-site presence; remote work is not regularly available.
  • Operate all aspects of the MJP printing process, including equipment setup, printing, post-processing, and evaluation of 3D printed components.
  • Partner closely with hardware and software engineering teams to develop, optimize, and validate print processes for current and next-generation MJP materials and systems. Identify, investigate, and help resolve hardware, software, and firmware-related issues to ensure exceptional product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify critical print process parameters and systematically evaluate their impact on printer performance, product quality, and process reliability through both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Design, develop, and utilize specialized test artifacts and methodologies to isolate, evaluate, and troubleshoot printer subsystems and process variables.
  • Under the guidance of senior engineering staff, develop a comprehensive understanding of MJP technology platforms, including printhead operation, waveform development, materials interaction, and process optimization.
  • Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) studies and perform statistical analysis using tools such as JMP, Minitab, Quantum XL, or similar software to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Field Service teams by assisting with the diagnosis, investigation, and resolution of complex customer and production issues that extend beyond standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze and summarize experimental data, prepare technical reports, and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to engineering teams, leadership, and executive stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment while working independently and managing multiple priorities.
  • Travel occasionally to other 3D Systems locations or customer sites to support development activities, problem resolution, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent education and experience in a relevant discipline will also be considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with jetting technologies or other additive manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies and statistical analysis tools is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a dynamic workload and adapt priorities based on evolving business needs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and technical communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven commitment to delivering high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a strong "can-do" attitude and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to identifying issues and developing solutions.
