Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

The Supply Chain Operations Division consists of Materials Contract Administration and Storehouse Operations. The purpose of the department is to serve various customers within Metra. Managing the continuous supply of parts materials and services required to support Engineering, Mechanical and Transit Operations. Additionally, the department operates Metra's four storehouses and is responsible for managing Metra's fuel and P-Card programs.

Reporting to the Sec Chief Storehouses, the Assistant Storehouse Manager will assist with inventory planning and management including replenishing and safeguarding materials in the assigned storehouse and the implementation of material management best practices

The primary duties include: Collaborate with various departments, users, and vendors to ensure material supplies meet user demand. Conduct inventory audits matching physical inventory to computerized records; reconcile discrepancies; recommend solutions to correct system deficiencies; and identify and implement service delivery improvements. May fill in for and assign work to staff in the absence of storehouse managers; monitor productivity, labor controls, and efficiency standards; and ensure quality and customer service is maintained. Monitor storeroom and warehouse material usage; develop delivery schedules; maintain inventory; prepare purchase requisitions; and expedite open purchase orders for outstanding materials. Review daily inventory audit report; and assist with the preparation of daily, monthly, and yearly summaries. Coordinate team's day-to-day activities, assign tasks/projects and monitor performance, and provide guidance and training, but is not a supervisor. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related discipline or in lieu of a specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted that equals (4) years in storehouse or materials management.
  2. In addition to #1, minimum of five (5) years of experience in storehouse or materials management.
  3. Experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP), EAM, or other computerized inventory systems or software is required.
  4. Working knowledge of materials ordering, inventory control, and storekeeping methods.
  5. Working knowledge of safety rules related to industrial equipment and warehouse operations.
  6. Working knowledge of inventory auditing and reconciliation processes.
  7. Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with others and work with outside vendors.
  8. Intermediate skill using Microsoft 365 (Word and Excel).
  9. Intermediate skill using computerized inventory, purchase order, and accounts payable systems and software
  10. Ability to supervise staff.
  11. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  12. Ability to work independently or on a team.
  13. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  14. Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of time.
  15. Must be willing to travel within Metra's 6-county region.
  16. Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Preferred:

  1. IBM Maximo EAM and Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC).
