Traveling Structured Cabling Field Engineer

Location: Tempe, AZ, with travel to Haskell, TX, and Bridgeport, AL
Schedule/Shift: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. start, 10 hours daily, with weekends as needed
Pay: Field Engineer I: $27 to $32 per hour; Field Engineer II: $32 to $35 per hour; Senior Field Engineer: $35 to $42 per hour
Position Type: Contract to hire after 640 hours

Job Summary

We are hiring Traveling Field Engineers at the I, II, and Senior levels to support fiber optic and copper infrastructure projects. These positions perform or oversee splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and project documentation based on experience level. Field Engineer II candidates will lead testing and splicing activities for one project, while Senior Field Engineers will manage field engineers and coordinate activities across multiple projects. All positions require travel on a rotation of six weeks in the field followed by one unpaid week at home.

Job Responsibilities



  • Perform fiber optic fusion splicing and testing using applicable equipment.
  • Read and interpret test results to identify issues and verify installation quality.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling issues.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and testing records.
  • Field Engineer II: Lead site testing and splicing activities for one project.
  • Field Engineer II: Assist with requests for information (RFIs), coordinate troubleshooting, and create and submit testing reports.
  • Senior Field Engineer: Manage field engineers and oversee splicing and testing across multiple projects concurrently.
  • Senior Field Engineer: Prepare RFIs, submittal packages, and finalized test results.
  • Senior Field Engineer: Mark up project drawings to propose field changes and solutions.


Job Requirements



  • Relevant experience in fiber optic splicing and testing appropriate to the position level.
  • Field Engineer I: Hands-on fusion splicing experience, with ribbon splicing preferred.
  • Field Engineer I: Experience using fiber testing equipment, preferably EXFO; Viavi, Fluke, and OTDR experience also accepted.
  • Field Engineer I: Ability to read and interpret test results.
  • Field Engineer II: Experience leading a site and managing testing and splicing activities for one project.
  • Field Engineer II: Strong project documentation skills, including preparing and submitting testing reports.
  • Field Engineer II: Ability to assist with RFIs and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling issues.
  • Senior Field Engineer: Experience managing field engineers and coordinating splicing and testing across multiple projects concurrently.
  • Senior Field Engineer: Ability to prepare RFIs, submittal packages, finalized test results, and marked-up project drawings.
  • Availability to work the required schedule, including weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to travel and follow the required field rotation.


Additional Job Details



  • Travel rotation consists of six weeks in the field followed by one unpaid week at home.
  • Per diem is $75 daily.
  • Project locations include Haskell, TX, and Bridgeport, AL.
