The department maintains collaboration with industry partners and contributes to hands-on instructional and research activity. Departmental work includes teaching, curriculum support, research coordination, and participation in university research initiatives such as the Protoplex.
Job Description
Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking an experienced Cleanroom Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our advanced cleanroom facility. This role is critical to ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety, and process integrity in support of research and education in semiconductors and micro/nanofabrication. The ideal candidate brings strong hands on technical expertise, attention to detail, and leadership in a regulated cleanroom environment. Key Responsibilities
- Support setup, qualification, and changeover of cleanroom processes and equipment
- Operate, monitor, and coordinate maintenance of cleanroom equipment and systems (HVAC, filtration, tools, and utilities)
- Ensure compliance with cleanroom protocols, safety standards, and contamination control procedures
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of cleanroom tools and infrastructure
- Document procedures, maintenance activities, and incident reports accurately and on time
- Coordinate with faculty, facilities, EHS, and external vendors as needed
- Provide training and instructions to users on equipment operation and cleanroom best practices and procedures
- Provide training and logistics support for education and outreach activities utilizing the cleanroom
- Provide hands-on process support for external and internal contract projects, including fabrication and testing
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cleanroom performance and reliability
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience working in a cleanroom environment (ISO Class 5-7 or equivalent)
- Familiarity with ISO standards, EHS regulations, and quality systems
- Strong knowledge of cleanroom protocols, gowning procedures, and contamination control
- Familiar with semiconductor, microelectronics, and microfabrication tools and qualification of cleanroom equipment
- Working knowledge of microfabrication process flows and hands-on experience supporting or executing fabrication steps in a cleanroom, including wafer handling and cleaning, photolithography, deposition, wet/dry etching, thermal processing.
- Demonstrated experience handling cleanroom chemicals and gases in compliance with safety and contamination control standards
- Ability to read and follow technical documentation, SOPs, and safety guidelines
- Comfortable working in full cleanroom gowning for extended periods
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $75,000-$98,072 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
