Overview
The International Banker is responsible for managing a portfolio of international affluent individuals and entrepreneurs. This role focuses on developing new wealth and depository business from prospects and existing clients. The International Banker identifies client needs and recommends appropriate bank products, including Treasury Management Services and consumer lending, while exercising discretion to meet those needs. In collaboration with partners, the International Banker works to expand commercial relationships with international clients, determining the most effective approach for relationship development and business growth.
What You'll Do:
Consistently meets and exceeds individual and/or team sales goals, including but not limited to deposit, loans and other, as applicable.
Develops new client business in target international markets (e.g., LATAM), leveraging external market knowledge to identify and pursue opportunities with international clients. Independently analyzes client creditworthiness by conducting preliminary financial statement analysis and evaluating against the bank's risk standards and product requirements, to make initial credit decisions and determine potential loan suitability. Collaborates with team members to generate, identify, qualify, and prioritize new business prospects, while exercising independent judgment in assessing business needs and client suitability for bank products. Independently expands existing relationships and actively solicits new business through client or center of influence (COI) referrals, leveraging established industry knowledge and expertise. Stays abreast of market trends, competition, and international developments to provide a strategic view and make informed recommendations about business opportunities, ensuring alignment with bank goals. Generates complex proposals and develops sales strategies at an expert level, exercising discretion and independent judgment to customize strategies that meet client and business needs Develops, expands, and maintains relationships with key referral sources and partners, exercising judgment in evaluating and nurturing those relationships for continued business development. Documents relationship processes as required by bank procedures, ensuring all necessary records are kept and decisions are documented in accordance with bank policies. Works with clients to assess goals, analyze gaps, and propose tailored solutions, independently using expertise to determine the best course of action. Acts as client advocate to secure suitable credit solutions and cross-sell a range of bank products and services, applying discretion in identifying needs and determining appropriate products. Evaluates business, management, industry, financial, and structural risks, independently analyzing and documenting assessments in credit approval documents, in line with bank risk management protocols. Leads sales initiatives, independently managing complex sales processes and developing customized proposals for clients, ensuring all solutions align with client needs and bank objectives. Fosters strong relationships with internal and external partners, independently navigating stakeholder needs and business requirements. Maintains expert knowledge of cross-border financial regulations, rules, and limitations, and applies that knowledge in advising international clients and ensuring compliance. Maintains expert-level knowledge of all financial products (including Investments & Trust) and services, using independent judgment to match clients with the appropriate solutions. Participates in special projects as needed, demonstrating independence and the ability to manage complex assignments without direct supervision. Engages in community organizations and activities, independently cultivating relationships to enhance business development opportunities. Bankers holding a FINRA license are required to maintain it in good standing by adhering to regulatory training requirements and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of direct sales and International Personal Banking development experience.
- 2-4 years prior International client experience, large international clients book portfolio, variety of countries they deal with, international COIs already established.
Proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals through independent activity in direct banking sales and credit support, while maximizing cross-sell opportunities and overall relationship profitability. Fluency in both Spanish and English (speak, write, and read fluently) is preferred to effectively communicate with a diverse range of clients, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring high-level service and relationship management across different customer segments. Solid knowledge of banking products, including loans, depository services, and other financial offerings, with an ability to effectively recommend appropriate solutions to clients. Ability to manage large and complex accounts independently, developing and nurturing relationships that align with both client needs and business goals. Experience working within a sales team, with a focus on high-quality service advocacy, fostering strong relationships with clients and internal teams. In-depth knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) requirements, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Knowledge and experience in completing KYC (Know Your Customer) processes, ensuring all necessary documentation and compliance measures are met to protect the organization from risk. Ability to effectively analyze customer financial data, evaluate creditworthiness, and make decisions based on bank risk standards and lending guidelines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate and present financial solutions to clients, stakeholders, and team members. Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and across departments to achieve sales and service goals, while contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Education
- Associate's Degree in Finance, Business or a related field required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business or a related field preferred.
