The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Neurology is seeking an hourly Temporary Professional Employee to support the Department of Neurology's Epilepsy Monitoring unit (EMU). Job duties will include escorting patients to and from examination rooms, monitoring patients via electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings, maintaining the quality of the recordings, and cleaning and resetting examination rooms and materials. Tasks may be required in both the adult and pediatric EMUs. Hands-on training will be provided. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing area and materials for patient testing
- Escorting patients to and from examination rooms
- Monitoring patients in the adult/pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
- Maintaining the quality of the electroencephalogram (EEG) recording, including fixing electrodes and ensuring camera recordings/audio are adequate for physician and technologist review
- Aiding in maintaining research studies and documentation pertaining to research study patients
- Identifying clinical and electrographic events and responding appropriately, including notifying appropriate personnel as needed
- Assisting with takedown and discontinuing VEEG upon patient discharge
- Performing routine maintenance of equipment to ensure operational condition
- Completing tasks in corroboration with Clinical Technicians and Electrodiagnostic Technologists, under direct supervision of both
- Working independently while performing functions of the job, assignments may include working in the adult or pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Units.
Supervision Received: General supervision is received from the EMU supervisor or other designated official. - Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, patients, and/or the public
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a Healthcare setting with direct patient care
- Customer service experience
- Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations
