Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Biostatistics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Existing departmental methodological research interests include Bayesian modeling and inference, causal inference, clinical trials, clustering, computational statistics, epidemic modeling, high-dimensional data analysis, longitudinal data analysis, model selection, network data analysis, penalized likelihood models, predictive modeling, spatial and spatio-temporal modeling, statistical genetics and genomics, statistical and machine learning, survival data analysis, syndromic surveillance, and time series analysis. The Department is looking to hire a faculty member who will either enhance or complement these research areas.

The College of Public Health is consistently ranked among the top 10 public schools of public health in the nation and offers a rich environment for interdisciplinary research and faculty engagement. The Department of Biostatistics' graduate program is ranked 8th overall in the nation among programs at public universities. The department is currently comprised of 17 primary faculty, 14 adjunct/secondary faculty, 50 staff and approximately 60 graduate students (http://cph.uiowa.edu/biostat/). 'The faculty and staff collectively secure a multimillion-dollar portfolio of grants, including $7-10M in extramural funding as principal investigators and another $36M with external collaborators.' The Department includes the Clinical Trials and Statistical Data Management Center (http://www.ctsdmc.org) and provides leadership to the Statistics and Analytics Core of the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy (https://iphprp.org/). The Department offers MS and PhD degrees in Biostatistics and an MPH degree in Health Data Science.

Computational resources provided through the department and college include support for workstations and servers using all major operating systems, a computer laboratory for instructional purposes with access to Windows machines with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), docking stations, collaboration areas, and access to dedicated nodes in the University's high-performance computing cluster.

Department faculty members enjoy strong collaborative relationships with other departments in the College of Public Health, the Carver College of Medicine, the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and numerous other units across campus as well as collaborators from other institutions. Education Requirement:

PhD or equivalent degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related area, expected to be completed by August 18th 2027.

Required Qualifications:

Qualified candidates with expertise in biostatistics, statistics, or a related area will receive full consideration.

Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Potential to develop a research agenda comprised of both methodological and applied interdisciplinary contributions.

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Potential to excel as a teacher and mentor.

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, including knowledge of effective strategies that foster and promote a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.

Experience mentoring students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
