Overview

The Debra Simon Center of Integrative Behavioral Health and Wellness at HackensackUMC Psychologist functions as a Clinical Psychologist under the supervision of the Director of Psychology at the Debra Simon Center, in accordance with the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association, guidelines from the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners, and standards set forth by the Joint Commission. In general, the Psychologist will serve as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team for the purpose of optimizing whole-person health and wellness, and will independently diagnose and treat behavioral health disorders and aspects of psychological adjustment. Specific to the Debra Simon Center, patients present with the full range of DSM diagnoses, and are often subject to compound stressors and comorbid medical conditions. The psychologist will be expected to participate in all phases of the outpatient process (outlined below). The specific scope of practice will be articulated in the delineation of privileges as issued in the process of appointment to the Medical Staff. The Psychiatry Department at HUMC offers focused, evidence-based treatments for their patients (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, etc.), and the hired psychologist is expected to play a significant role in facilitating this delivery, including training and supervising junior clinical staff in these approaches. The position will also involve the supervision and mentorship of psychology trainees as well as medical students; and taking on an active role in the development of psychology externship, internship and post-doctoral programs. A psychologist in this position has the potential for significant professional growth, as the Wellness Center develops treatment tracks to meet patient needs and creates programming to reduce patient hospitalizations.

Responsibilities

1. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of a Psychologist as prescribed by training and standards, and delineated by the medical staff appointment. 2. Participates in all phases of the outpatient process including: performing intake assessments; developing and updating treatment plans; providing empirically-based treatment in individual, family, and group modalities in the delivery outcome-oriented psychotherapy; working with families and community resources to provide patient support; supervising trainees and less experienced staff; collaborating with the interdisciplinary team; and attending disposition and other staff meetings. a. Evaluates patients according to department policies/procedures and follows standards of practice for mental health disorders. Conducts diagnostic evaluations and provides diagnosis from the Diagnostic Statistical Mental which is directly supported by evaluation findings, and demonstrates knowledge and skills in the use and interpretation of brief assessment tools and subsequent integration into the formulation of a diagnostic impressions. b. Provides effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Demonstrates effective treatment skills and techniques. Evaluates treatment effectiveness with periodic reassessment using outcome-driven data and modifies treatment according to outcome data. Communicates changes in treatment plans with team, supervisor and patient, and records changes based on services provided, supported with documentation. Clinical judgment and skills are monitored through participation in team meetings and case presentations. Supervision and chart review are additional ways of measuring skills sets. c. Productivity and treatment guidelines will be maintained based on departmental standards. 3. Functions as a consultant in the Department of Psychiatry in the areas of Behavioral Health, and provides behavioral health consultations within the medical center. Serves a resource and liaison to departments in the medical center and community agencies who seek mental health information. 4. Participates in professional and community educational conferences and seminars as part of professional development. 5. Provides program services in accordance with HUMC policy and procedures, the Joint Commission, and the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners. 6. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Centers Organizational and Managerial Competencies 7. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 8. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Doctoral degree from APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD). 2. Completion of APA-approved internship in Adult Clinical and/or Pediatric Psychology. 3. Proficient in evidence-based treatments (i.e. CBT, ACT, DBT, etc.). 4. Minimum 5 years related clinical experience serving patients across the mental health and work-related spectrum. 5. Experience providing clinical training and supervision, and a commitment to training the next generation of psychologists. 6. Sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity. 7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 8. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite platforms. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1.
