Position Summary: 
Under
 the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental
 Engineering, the Senior Transportation Engineer works with faculty and
 other research staff on complex transportation planning analysis tasks
 related to sponsored research projects, focusing on transportation data
 development and analysis, use of regional travel demand, traffic and
 simulation models, and ITS engineering. Under the direction of the Department
 Chair and Principal Investigators on research projects, the Senior
 Transportation Engineer participates in a variety of research activities,
 including performing technical analysis work, preparing documentation,
 assisting with technology transfer activities, and participating in
 communication with clients. Duties also include needs assessment,
 implementation and support for research tasks to which the incumbent is assigned.
Essential Functions: 
- Manages one or more tasks for
 sponsored research projects. The incumbent will focus on areas of
 transportation modeling and systems analysis, traffic engineering, ITS, and
 transit systems operations. The incumbent will utilize and apply travel
 demand modeling, traffic engineering and simulation, GIS, and other
 transportation and mathematical modeling and analysis software.
- Keeps up with the
 state-of-the-practice in transportation modeling, traffic engineering and
 operations, and ITS, including innovations in related software tools.
 Implements this knowledge in research activities. (55%)
- Performs (as assigned)
 literature review, problem identification, data collection and analysis,
 analysis of solutions, and development of recommendations.
- Works with faculty, research
 staff, and students on preparing technical scopes of work for research
 projects, and assists the Principal Investigators with developing project
 schedules.
 - Assists faculty and other researchers with
 managing all aspects of the technical work in the areas of transportation
 modeling and systems analysis, traffic engineering and ITS, including the
 scheduling and assignment of work tasks. (30%)
- Prepares technical memoranda
 and progress reports summarizing the results of the technical work. The
 incumbent will also be responsible for preparing sections of the Final Report
 documents related to the work tasks performed as part of research projects,
 including printed and electronic data and reports for submission and
 presentation to research clients. The Senior Transportation Engineer will
 attend meetings as necessary with NJIT faculty and staff, as well as meetings
 with research clients.
 - In coordination with faculty prepares and
 sends for publication research reports and papers related to conducted
 research. (10%)
Additional Functions: 
- Assists faculty with graduate
student guidance and mentoring by providing expertise and advice in the areas
of transportation modeling, engineering, ITS, and data analysis. (5%)
- Performs other related duties as assigned by
the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Principal
Investigators on research projects.
Prerequisite Qualifications: 
-
 Master's degree in Transportation, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Three
 years related experience in the computer based transportation modeling,
 simulation, and systems analysis.

 Working knowledge of regional and local transportation planning and
 engineering practices in New Jersey, as well as basic transportation
 engineering theory and practices nationwide.

 Working experience in computer based traffic analysis, preferable using
 Synchro.
-
 Working experience in computer-based transportation modeling (Cube, TransCAD,
 or VISUM) and simulation (Paramics, VISSIM, or CORSIM).
- Must
 have a strong computer background, including high-level proficiency with
 Microsoft Windows and Office software, including Word, Excel, Power Point,
 Access, and Visio.

 Knowledge and working experience using data analysis tools such as New Jersey
 Congestion Management System (NJCMS), New Jersey Accident Record Database
 (NJARD), and Census Transportation Planning Package (CTPP).
- Must
 have excellent oral and written communication skills
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
 prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the
 satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and
 experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position
Preferred Qualifications: 
-Experience with ITS engineering and systems analysis
is preferred.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $63,129.05-$113,324.04 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
