The current full-time salary range for this position is $66,259-$186,446
Percent time:
Positions may range from 17% to 100% time during the academic year, while summer appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis
Anticipated start:
Positions usually start in January, various times throughout the summer and August
Review timeline:
Applications are typically reviewed in February and March for summer course needs, in April and May for fall course needs, and in September and October for spring course needs

Position description

The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the College Writing Programs should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester depending on the needs of the department.

Position Titles: Lecturer, Lecturer in Summer Sessions.

Job Duties: Successful applicants will teach in CWP's Reading and Composition sequence or other CWP courses in writing, reading, and oral communication. They will have complete responsibility for classes to include teaching in a classroom environment, meeting with students during scheduled weekly office hours and by appointment, and grading student work.

Foreign applicants must also have permission to work in the U.S. by start date.

UC lecturers are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement of the UC-AFT.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Completion of advanced degree and three years of university-level teaching experience are required.

International applicants must also have permission to work in the U.S. by start date. We cannot sponsor US visas for employment.

Preferred qualifications

A Ph.D., M.F.A., or equivalent international degree in one of the following fields:

o composition studies

o rhetoric and composition

o digital rhetoric

o second-language writing/ESL/applied linguistics

o education

o creative writing

o journalism

o social sciences

o humanities

Three or more years of experience teaching university-level composition, creative writing, or other university writing

Evidence of ongoing professional development

Evidence of clear communication skills as presented in application materials
