Testing is required for this position. Position Summary: The Finishing Assistant will be assisting the Senior Finisher in applying stain on veneers and hardwoods to achieve the desired color while paying specific attention to quality, productivity requirements and safety. The ideal candidate for this role will be a self-starter, able to work both individually and within a team environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Sanding and smoothing an item in preparation for finishing (by hand or with a pneumatic sander).
- Be knowledgeable in filling cracks, imperfections, or holes in wood products.
- Have the ability to learn how to mix finish ingredients and apply stain on veneers and hardwoods to obtain desired colors or shades.
- Consistently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds (with team member assistance) and stand and/or bend throughout the complete shift.
- Handle multiple tasks in a deadline orientated environment.
- Maintain work area, organized and orderly, ensuring compliance with the company's safety and health regulations.
Qualifications Desired:
- Previous experience in finishing wood products.
- Experienced in reading shop drawings; Know how to relate the elevations, plan views, and detail (section cut) views together in order to understand what the finished product will look like when completed
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience with hand and power tools

- Lifting - Employee may be required to lift weights up to 50 pounds. In the event a load weighs more than 50 pounds, team members are required to seek assistance from another team member before lifting and use proper lifting techniques;
- Push/Pulling - Push material of various sizes and weights;
- Stand/Walking - Must be able to stand approximately 100% of the work shift at a designated workstation;
- Reaching - reach up to heights of 60 inches to position and retrieve needed materials;
- Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving machinery in a temperature-controlled environment and includes exposure to contaminants (mainly dust and fumes). Noise level: moderate to high (appropriate PPE is provided to all employees).
