About the Job

The candidate will join a vibrant research environment at the University of Minnesota and help build the new state-supported Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism. Contiguous space is available for labs and offices as the Institute grows. Appropriate administrative support is in place.

Candidates must have a background in the biology of aging and expertise in one or more of the geroscience pillars of aging: metabolism, macromolecular damage, epigenetics, inflammation, stress responses, proteostasis, and/or stem cells and regeneration. All levels of experience are welcome to apply. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong publication record in aging and will devote 50% of their effort on aging research. Each candidate will have an academic home in a department of the UMN School of Medicine, which will dictate terms for tenure and promotion.

70% Research
IBAM expects faculty to develop/maintain an outstanding research program focused at least partially on the biology of aging and metabolism. A diverse array of model organisms are welcome. IBAM faculty will be strongly encouraged to submit grant applications to NIA, AFAR and the Glenn Foundation. Successful candidates will be expected to cover at least 50% of their salaries through external sources of funding and maintain a self-supporting research program.

20% Teaching
UMN School of Medicine requires faculty to teach a minimum of 50% of one lecture course per academic year (~20-25 lectures) in the graduate and or medical school. Assignments are determined by academic chairs. In addition, a commitment to mentoring undergraduate and graduates students is expected. IBAM will develop coursework on the Biology of Aging as well as submitting training grants, and participation is expected.

10% Service
IBAM expects members to regularly participate in institute seminars, colloquia, faculty meetings and to serve on committees. Participation in Institutional programmatic grants is expected when appropriate. Academic departments that serve as tenure homes will have additional service requirements.
