This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.l

As a Manufacturing Engineer passionate about MRO for the BE-4 rocket engine, you will manage a team of engineers to support the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the engine. This role involves implementing and optimizing new processes, evaluating process capabilities, and transitioning processes to production. You will work on the refurbishment of flight-proven engines in a multifaceted environment, establishing new processes and equipment from scratch to accelerate the reuse and flight of New Glenn. Applying data, you will drive process improvements, relay engineering requirements, and support manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Define, develop, implement, optimize, and manage rocket engine MRO and test processes. Translate engineering intent from drawings and configurations into fully functional hardware by developing manufacturing work instructions.

Handle build sequence, cost, quality, and schedule of hardware throughout the manufacturing process. Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to improve the design-to-build feedback loop. Collaborate with vendors to develop new manufacturing techniques. Work with multi-functional teams to improve designs, processes, and equipment. Use data from DFMA and PFMEA studies to drive decisions and process improvements.

Perform root cause analysis for non-conformances and deploy corrective actions. Build and modify manufacturing work instructions to address non-conformances. Apply lean manufacturing methodologies for process development and problem-solving. Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment and fixtures. Operate and fix equipment as needed. Travel for training and support activities. Expect up to 25% travel both local and to other sites in the US. Visit customer sites to support engine delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (or related field) from an accredited university.
  • Min 5 yrs Validated experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Prior experience leading teams.
  • Understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals, including GD&T knowledge.
  • Experience with MRO of aircraft, turbomachinery, or aerospace hardware.
  • Proficiency in technical software (CAD, scheduling, issue tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience crafting English work instructions for technicians and inspectors.
  • Experience working in electronic MES systems for real-time redlining.
  • Willingness to work extended hours when needed.
  • Attention to detail and results-driven approach.
  • Passion for rockets, space, and our mission.
  • Experience processing non-conformances.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain professional relationships, and cultivate a culture of inclusion.
  • U.S. citizenship or status as a U.S. national, permanent resident, or a refugee/asylum grantee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ yrs proven experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Extensive experience in high-rate aerospace and/or automotive assembly lines.
  • Ability to develop processes aligned with industry quality systems such as AS9100.
  • Understanding of rocket engine components and systems.
  • Experience establishing new production lines.
  • Proficiency in Creo and Creo Illustrate.

Work Schedule:

First shift position, Monday - Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM.
