Job Family Description

Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field.

Discipline Description

Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) engineers provide engineering support for electrical and/or instrumentation systems in an operating nuclear materials processing plant or as part of the broader site infrastructure. Electrical/I&C engineers identify system concepts and determine system functional and technical requirements, develop, and analyze equipment performance, monitor system performance, troubleshoot, and resolve problems and ensure operation within technical, regulatory and safety basis requirements. They propose and develop process/system improvements including equipment upgrades, and plant modifications.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

These engineers will report to the Process Controls & Automation Engineering (PC&AE) Organization and will design and install distributed control systems for various facilities at SRS. These engineers will be responsible for leadership roles for the planning, design, procurement, commissioning, and maintenance of the DCS for HVAC/Ventilation, manufacturing and plant utilities for various chemical and nuclear processes. Process Control Engineers are expected to be completely cognizant about the nuclear/chemical facility that they are assigned. Working knowledge of plant system designs, electronic sensors, and the relationship between the plant equipment and a process control system are key to success of this assignment.

Duties will include software development, software modification, offline and online testing, documentation, system improvements for existing and planned PLC systems.

The types of work/skills needed may include:
* Develop, test and implement new DCS systems to maintain and support Facility Operations.
* Provide creative solutions to upgrade existing control systems.
* Experience with DCS, PLC or SCADA programming, Emerson DeltaV preferred.
* Experience working in a structured environment with standardized coding.
* Skills in troubleshooting PLC hardware and software issues on production system.
* Experience working with safety systems.
* Working knowledge of IEEE/ISA standards.
* Good team player.
The position will typically work with Design Engineering, Purchasing, Vendors, Architectural & Engineering Companies, Construction, Operations, Maintenance and Cognizant System Engineers.
* Automation Support for Manufacturing Systems using Emerson, Yokogawa, ABB, Honeywell Rockwell, Siemens platforms, including programming, graphics development, and system hardware support.
* Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new software requirements for projects and initiatives to support and enhance our existing systems
* Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements and business needs
* Manage projects - defining scope, stakeholder analysis, objectives, timeline, testing phase, implementation, and evaluation
* Write control narratives, technical procedures, and documentation for the applications including operating procedures, Troubleshooting procedures, User Manuals, etc.
* Train operators on new and existing software
* Work collaboratively with Maintenance and Operations for commissioning, functional testing and startup of control equipment and the process that it is on
* Supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying existing and legacy control systems
* Develop and apply communication interfaces between equipment and control systems using various protocols
* Develop and apply DCS/PLC programming
* Develop and apply HMI programming
* Participate in acceptance testing for equipment at the customer or vendor site
* Develop technical solutions to resolve project issues
* Knowledge of national codes and standards, such as NFPA, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, and IES.
*Develop and analyze equipment performance, monitor system performance, troubleshoot and resolves problems and ensure operation within technical, regulatory and safety basis requirements.
*Propose and develop process/system improvements including equipment upgrades, and plant modifications.
* Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, construction support, walkdowns, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Single Line Drawings; Electrical Equipment Lists; Control System Design; Control Schematics and Connection Diagrams; Electrical Equipment Specifications; Bulk Material Specifications; Circuit/Raceway/Wiring/Connection Design; Grounding; Heat Tracing; Fire Detection; Short Circuit Calculations; Arc Flash Incident Energy Analysis; Load Flow Analysis; and Electrical System Sizing Calculations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field

* Degrees/Disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the above disciplines.
* Demonstrate I&C design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry.
* Proficient using 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software, MicroStation is a plus.
* Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.
* Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques.
* Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications.
