The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics welcomes applications for Post Doctoral Associate positions on a continuous basis. Hires for temporary part-time and full-time research positions are made on an as-needed basis as determined by the Search Committee in conjunction with various Principal Investigators in the Department. Appointments are temporary in nature and can range from 10% to 100% FTE depending on the research contract funding and terms. Renewals are dependent upon need, research funding, and satisfactory performance of the individual in the position. Salary is set by the individual faculty member choosing to hire a candidate but is within University guidelines. The percentage of time and duration of appointment will determine benefits. Positions can vary from three months to one year, but can also last up to three years. Duration of appointment, position title, and salary vary according to funding and qualifications of the candidate. Positions available in the Department would be in the areas of aerospace systems, fluid mechanics and solid mechanics. Duties assigned to these postions will vary, but generally include:
Individuals will conduct research in various areas of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics as needed by the faculty Principal Investigators according to their research needs. Occasional teaching is confined to the specific area of research interests and usually no more than 1 course per semester. Qualifications
Ph.D. degree required in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics or other appropriate engineering degree. Degree in the physical sciences, mathematics or computer science, may be considered if appropriate to the project. About the Department
The AEM department has vibrant and active research programs in all areas of aerospace engineering and mechanics, including fluid dynamics, hypersonics, aerospace systems, computational mechanics and aerospace structures and materials. The department is in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, which is a world-class research university with outstanding resources and programs in engineering and science, health sciences, social sciences and liberal arts. The AEM department has close ties with on-campus multidisciplinary centers, and convenient access to outstanding shared experimental and computational facilities, such as the Gemini-Huntley Robotics Research Laboratory of the Minnesota Robotics Institute, the Minnesota Nano Center, the Characterization Facility, the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.
