Director of Hospice Medical Affairs

Our groundbreaking hospice and palliative care programs offer a significant difference when dealing with a life-limiting condition. We offer a broad range of services in the community or facility-based to help patients and their families ease the burden of managing a life-limiting illness or end of life care.

The Director of Hospice Medical Affairs reports to the Chief Medical Officer/Hospice Medical Director. He/she has primary administrative responsibilities, working with the CMO/Hospice Medical Director to ensure the smooth operations of the medical component of hospice maintained by MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care. He/she will assist in physician orientation and training, physician scheduling, trainee preceptorship, and implementation of quality and compliance activities. He/she will provide input and mentorship related to medical matters for the interdisciplinary teams, including complex case review. He/she will collaborate with the senior leadership team to ensure that the clinical operations of the hospice teams are high-quality and evidence-based, fully compliant, and consistent with the goal of operational efficiencies and financial optimization. When the Chief Medical Officer is unavailable, he/she may be required to cover CMO responsibilities, overseeing the medical component of the hospice agency's patient care program and supervising all employed and contracted providers (Hospice Physicians and Nurse Practitioners) of MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care. The Director of Hospice Medical Affairs will collaborate with the Director of Palliative Care Practice to assist with the growth, development, and oversight of Palliative Care services provided through MJHS Medical Associates, P.C. as appropriate, and will serve as a member of the P.C. He/she also may provide direct clinical care, providing medical assessment and management of hospice or palliative care patients to meet the organization's needs, and will serve as a member of the core faculty for the MJHS Physician Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care. When providing care, or when providing mentorship/teaching related to the care offered by other providers, he/she will ensure that best practices are maintained based on accepted standards of care, and he/she will model professionalism for clinical staff. The Director of Hospice Medical Affairs is considered a member of the leadership team of MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care and shares accountability for implementing, achieving and sustaining the MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care mission, vision and strategic plan. He/she is part of the public face of the organization and will participate in educational/advocacy/business development initiatives involving the professional community and other interested groups and individuals. He/she is expected to attend organizational meetings for physician management, quality, compliance, hospice operations, and strategy.

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical College with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. Completion of post-graduate internship and residency required.
  • 5 years of hospice experience including leadership responsibilities.
  • Able to obtain staff privileges at participating healthcare facilities.
  • Administrative experience, e.g., oversight of medical practice or a quality program, strongly recommended.
  • Current New York State physician licensure to practice and DEA licensure to prescribe scheduled drugs.
  • Board certified in primary specialty and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or Hospice Medical Director Certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
