Job Description

This faculty position is in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics and Medical Epidemiology (BBME), within the School of Medicine and is open to applicants at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level on the tenure track.

The department seeks highly motivated individuals with a passion for scientific discovery, improving healthcare, and informatics. Be part of a rapidly growing team developing informatics to further research and serving a dynamic community of researchers across the University of Missouri.

Responsibilities include developing an externally funded research program that aligns with open data infrastructure to promote FAIR data principles, reproducibility and scalability to other partner healthcare and research organizations. The University of Missouri System NextGen Precision Health Initiative has created a data lake and repositories utilizes AWS, Snowflake, i2b2, and PCORnet Common Data Model to store information from our affiliate clinical organizations, has REDCap deployed across the enterprise with FHIR integration with our Oracle EHR. The school leads the Greater Plains Collaborative PCORnet Clinical Research Network that further integrates data across 13 major health systems across eight states linked to statewide Medicare and Medicaid claims providing rich longitudinal data for prospective and observational studies. The school also has access to the Cerner Learning Health Network with complementary community health system data, operates the Tiger Institute Health Alliance Health Information Exchange, and the Missouri Cancer Registry for the state.

The position is expected to engage in collaborative research with other faculty from programs and departments within the University and with senior leadership from affiliate organizations such as the Tiger Institute, Cerner Corporation, Truman Medical Center, and the State of Missouri. We are particularly looking for individuals with the following interests:

  • Clinical information systems, clinical decision support, and clinician or patient centered application development
  • Quantitative/qualitative informatics evaluation methods
  • Risk adjustment and health care outcomes analysis
  • Natural language processing,
  • Ontology development and management (UMLS, LOINC, SNOMED, FDB, RxNORM)
  • Established research, teaching, service, and extra-mural funding track record
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: PhD., M.D., or D.O. and training in biomedical informatics through advanced degree programs, fellowship training, or comparable experiences in knowledge management, clinical decision support, translational informatics.

Successful candidates will be evaluated on the ability to:

  • Work as an independent informatician to develop externally funded informatics research programs.
  • Possess the ability to design/develop key components of the informatics infrastructure, including terminology, data models, knowledge resources, dynamic end-user interfaces, and aggregations of data designed to support research. Participate in team based, open source, software development and system management.
  • Provide collaborate research support related to the development of informatics solutions with UM researchers and affiliates.
  • Provide collaborate research support related to the evaluation of health care delivery, clinical and research information systems and interventions with UM and affiliate organizations.
  • Teach informatics courses for graduate students in masters of clinical research, and other disciplines.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the dean for informatics.
