Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an accomplished and dynamic Director of Planning and Construction Management to lead the strategic planning, design, and execution of key construction projects across our campuses. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovative campus development, shaping the future of our university's physical infrastructure.

As the Director, you will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of construction projects-from conceptualization through to successful completion-ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with Embry-Riddle's mission and standards. This position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is driven by the challenge of managing complex projects while maintaining a commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Lead the development and execution of long-term facilities plans, working closely with university leadership to align construction efforts with Embry-Riddle's strategic goals.
  • Oversee a diverse portfolio of construction projects across multiple campuses, ensuring they are delivered to the highest standards.
  • Guide the planning, design, and execution phases, ensuring timely and on-budget completion of each project.

Financial Stewardship & Resource Management

  • Prepare, manage, and track project budgets, including cost estimates, financial reports, and funding allocations.
  • Lead negotiations and manage contracts with architects, engineers, contractors, and other external consultants.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources and effective cost control, maintaining strict adherence to budgetary constraints.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the university and external stakeholders, including contractors, architects, and regulatory bodies.
  • Foster strong relationships across departments to ensure seamless communication and project alignment.
  • Regularly update senior leadership and key stakeholders on project milestones, timelines, and challenges.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all projects meet relevant codes, regulations, and university policies.
  • Implement and enforce quality control standards to guarantee that construction work meets or exceeds the university's high expectations.
  • Proactively address and resolve any challenges or issues that arise during the construction process.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Planning and Construction Management team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage hiring, training, and performance evaluations to build and maintain a strong, motivated team.
  • Inspire team members to take initiative and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects, preferably in a higher education or institutional setting.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, from university leadership to external contractors and regulatory agencies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the initiative and drive to take ownership of projects and lead them from inception to successful completion.
  • The ability to collaborate across departments and foster strong, productive relationships.
  • A deep understanding of construction processes, project management methodologies, and budget management.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in construction management, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in higher education or similar institutional environments is highly desirable.
  • Registered professional engineer or licensed architect. Airport operations experience a plus. (Preferred)
  • Active Driver's license (required)

Skills:

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and best practices.Proficiency in project management software and tools.
