Hours Per Week 4 hours per week per course for teaching and additional for grading and course preparation
Work Schedule Morning, Afternoon, or Evening (flexible, if online)

General Responsibilities
The World Languages Department is seeking adjunct instructors for a variety of day, evening, and online credit classes. Our instructors are passionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated. They enjoy working with our diverse population of adolescent and adult learners, and they are interested in professional development and growing as educators. We offer 12 languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Persian, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
Work Performed

  • Teaching assigned course hours each week
  • Lesson planning
  • Assessing regularly and giving timely feedback to students
  • Completing required paperwork and maintaining accurate records, such as attendance and grades
  • Delivering planned lessons in the classroom or online according to program standards
  • Examining and remediating one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support students of diverse, particularly minoritized, backgrounds
  • Monitoring HCC email for program updates and information
  • Attending required professional development and departmental meetings

Other Knowledge Required
Master's degree or higher in a foreign language, linguistics, education, or a related field, or BA/BS in TESOL, linguistics, education, foreign language, English, or related field with teaching experience, and a background or experience in teaching a language to non-native speakers.

  • Current pedagogical best practices in the field of language teaching
  • Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Basic technology skills; familiarity with an LMS is beneficial
  • Advanced, near-native, or native proficiency in the language you teach.
