JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A Postdoctoral position funded by the NIH is available immediately in the Laboratory of Dr. Santhosh Girirajan in the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Anthropology at Penn State to study the molecular genetics basis of neurodevelopmental disorders using Drosophila melanogaster models.The research program is focused on using high-throughput and quantitative techniques developed by the lab to understand the role of genes and genetic interactions towards phenotypes in neurodevelopmental disorders.The position will involve working at the interface of human genetics and fruit fly models, and will provide an opportunity to learn genomics as well as computational methods. Education and Experience Applicants should have obtained a PhD in molecular biology, neuroscience, or genetics using fruit fly models and should have experience handling fly stocks, performing large-scale genetic screens, and ability to carry out molecular biology experiments. Applicants must have a significant motivation to study human genetic diseases using flies, and should be willing to supervise undergraduate students and graduate students, as large-scale screens require a collaborative team of students and postdocs. Additional Information This is a term, non-tenure track position that is funded for one year from the hire date with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
