Job Summary
The Medical Assistant will function as a comprehensive staff member in the practice and perform all clinical and clerical functions relating to that practice, including but not limited to coordinating the flow of patient visits, vital signs, blood draws, diagnostic testing, patient interview, review of medical records, assisting physicians, administration of medications/vaccines, dressings and other therapies, phone/website portal management, supply management, basic equipment maintenance, patient insurance, referral and charging management.
Student Health Center hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8am-5pm, and Tuesday and Thursday 10am-7pm
Essential Functions
- Room patients and anticipate timing of the physician to leave no gaps in flow of the session.
- Ensure a comprehensive assessment of the patient is done and documented, as per practice protocol.
- Ensure all essential elements of patient history and assessment are interviewed and documented accurately.
- Anticipate procedures that are required by appointment type and patient interview; prepare patient appropriately.
- Ensure vital signs, height and weight are accurately and efficiently accomplished and documented.
- Handwashing and sanitizer at appropriate intervals and occasions.
- Demonstrate appropriate disposal of dirty and contaminated items.
- Utilize appropriate technique for medication and vaccine administration (proper documentation and patient charging).
- Follow sterile technique for dressings/dressing changes: follows protocol.
- Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy for point of care testing. Competent at calibration of instruments and quality measurements.
- Record results accurately and complete appropriate charge.
- Accurate and complete implementation of tests.
- Maintain appropriate communication of results to physician.
- Accurate charging for test/treatment.
- Accurate and complete implementation of tests.
- Accurately document assessments, results, interview responses, insurance information, appointments, etc. into the EMR.
- Proper collection, labeling and allocation of specimens (right order, right patient, right lab, correct type of specimen).
- Scanning documents timely and accurately according to appropriate folders in EMR.
- Maintain compliance with Patient Privacy Regulations; keeps all patient information confidential and protected.
- Perform front desk coverage as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
- Current certification of Medical Assistant (must be from a Drexel approved organization)
- Experience working in a clinic setting.
- Competent in the utilization of electronic medical records, vital sign equipment, EKG, resuscitative equipment (including AED and oxygen), blood draws, vaccination and medicine administration, PPD testing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and exercise good judgment related to patient illness/condition.
- Excellent communication skill.
- Ability to work one weekend per year.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic Life Support certification.
- 2 years of experience.

This position is classified as Non-exempt, grade H. Compensation for this grade ranges from $17.14 - $25.71 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
