Basic Qualifications

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:



  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.
  • Education:HS Diploma
  • This is an internship for a departing military employee, not for a student in college.

We are operating as an approved DoD SkillBridge Organization in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 1322.29. General Dynamics NASSCO is honored to assist our military and has specifically designed our internships to prepare participants for their transition to civilian life.

The General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship program is being afforded to all ranks, enlisted or officer, both active duty Military Members of all supporting branches and Military Spouses. Participants are not eligible for compensation from the company, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. A General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship, whether entry or mid-level, is an opportunity for individuals to gain valuable civilian experience through specific industry training during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. You will job-shadow and learn from experienced leaders and other smart, motivated people. This program will help you develop best in class skills on mission critical work. Participation in General Dynamics NASSCO SkillBridge Military Internship Program is voluntary, Service member-initiated, and must be authorized by the individuals chain of command prior to the start of the internship. Successful completion of all necessary company agreements and documentation will also be required.

SUMMARY

Work as part of a respected team of security professionals protecting the people and property of General Dynamics (GD) NASSCO and US Navy personnel and ships based at GD NASSCO. Provides support to Manager of Security in all phases of the Security Administration Office functions. Position reports to the Security Administration Supervisor of Security Dept. Brings expertise, excellence and commitment to protecting some of our Nation's most valuable assets by maintaining internal contacts with all departments, outside agencies, vendors and other organizations. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, exceptional customer service skills, situational awareness, and thrive in a fast paced, continually changing environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES



  • Prepares and issues badges for new employees, temporary employees, subcontractors, vendors, third parties (AIT) and visitors in accordance with access control and risk management procedures
  • Verifies security documents and processes badges for new hire employees and rehires
  • Verifies visit requests and approves for regular visitors to NASSCO. Maintains and processes boarding lists to SWRMC Security for employee and subcontractor access to USN repair vessels
  • Processes DBIDS credential applications to access various USN base installations
  • Processes foreign visitor badges that comply with all export (ITAR/EAR) regulations
  • Interact with visitors and employees, provide directions and respond to inquiries
  • Provide staff coverage at Building 1 Lobby Reception
  • Distribute all parking lot decal and facility vehicle requests that are consistent with Manager's policies. Maintain a comprehensive parking lot decal database
  • Programming, activation, and deactivation of NASSCO temporary badges
  • Clears terminated employees
  • Handle problem calls as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service at Security Office counter
  • Administrate all overspray claims
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS




  • High school graduate or the equivalent. Some college level work in business management or related course work a plus.



  • One to two years administrative or security related work experience preferred



  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of security access procedures through work experience



  • Must have good interpersonal and excellent communication skills



  • Must be able to handle stressful situations, perform work responsibilities and resolve security access issues and inquiries under moderate supervision



  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time and reduce costs





PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle or feel objects, or controls; and to talk and hear. Must be physically able to commute to various areas in the shipyard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust and smoke. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for providing administrative support in all phases of the Security Office, which directly affects the productivity and schedule of all production and service departments.
