POSITION SUMMARY:
Designs custom test apparatus including specification of instrumentation and associated data acquisition requirements. Involvement in all aspects of test documentation including writing test procedures to comply with internal requirements and relevant industry standards and specifications, witnessing testing, and writing test reports. Analyzes test results and data and provides interpretation and insight to the customer and the test facility. Performs analysis as required to support design of test hardware or customer specified requirements. Instrumentation: equipment software (hardware) used in the control and automation of test setups. Power, connection, communication requirements of data acquisition.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
* Test Design - Apply basic physics to design test hardware, procedures, and specifications based on Customer SOWs and Test Standards. Determine data requirements and develop software in the appropriate programming language (LabVIEW, Matlab, C++, etc.) to meet these requirements
* Perform Testing - Witness tests and provide support to Technicians as tests are conducted. Ensure that all necessary data is captured and validated
* Analysis - Complete analysis of test apparatus to ensure performance under specified operating conditions
* Data Processing - After test completion, review and interpret test data. Perform manual data reduction or create automated software as needed to reduce raw test data to a format appropriate for the customers needs. Communicate findings to Program Manager and/or client
* Other - Perform other duties as assigned

CORE REQUIREMENTS:
* Normally receives detailed instructions on all work. Regular supervision, usually under the direction of a Sr Engineer, Staff Engineer or Engineering Manager
* Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
* Limited interaction with clients. Builds stable working relationships internally
* General understanding, interpretation and analysis of test results
* Foundational understanding of physics principles; knowledge of all potential aspects of safety
* Able to design basic test apparatus and perform basic analysis tasks. Strong mathematical skills, basic CAD skills, FEA software skills, technical writing, Matlab, LabView

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* BS in Engineering, Mechanical, Physics or related field
* 0-3 Years of Experience

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • General office or test lab environment with exposure to sudden, loud noises
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
