I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Properly performs all echocardiology examinations including Transesophageal technique, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
a. Gather pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
b. Accurately completes all records, paperwork and exams.
c. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
d. Promptly and properly transfers digitized echo studies to the Echo PACS system and performs necessary manipulation of data.
e. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
f. Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.
g. Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure.
h. Assists with other job related duties including film processing, urgent requests and scheduling.
i. Assists with an equal amount of On-call coverage.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Graduate of accredited school of Ultrasonography, Radiological Technology or Cardiac Sonography.

Preferred:
1. Certification preferred
2. Associates Degree preferred.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation for echocardiology exams.
2. Minimum one year experience in diagnostic echocardiology under the direction of a qualified physician.
3. Expected ARDMS registered in one category within one year of hire date
4. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results.
5. Verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with patients and families.
OR equivalent combination of the above

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
