Summary

Ensures the safe and accurate use of radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist through oversight of the technical aspects radiation therapy, including imaging, treatment, and associated procedures. Performs quality assurance testing, calibrates radiation therapy equipment, leads the implementation of new technologies, and develops policies and procedures.

Job Duties

  • Performs accurate and timely quality assurance testing including patient-specific reviews/measurements, equipment calibration, and routine testing. Maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinates and participates in the implementation of new equipment and software including acceptance, commissioning, and training.
  • Coordinates and supports repair and maintenance activities and verifies proper operation prior to clinical usage, when applicable.
  • Oversees, advises, and participates in treatment planning activities. Collaborates with physicians, dosimetrists, and other colleagues to develop optimal treatment plans.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure the safe, accurate, and appropriate use of radiation.
  • Performs or participates in clinical treatment procedures as required by regulatory guidance and departmental policy.
  • Trains and orients clinical staff in routine and new procedures, regulations, and principles related to the technical aspects of Radiation Oncology.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Medical Physics or equivalent
  • 2 years Clinical experience
  • Expertise in radiation physics and its medical applications.
  • Ability to coordinate radiation treatment and treatment planning activities.
  • Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation and of physics and patience care techniques.
  • Familiarity with radiation protection regulations and standards.
  • Ability to anticipate departmental needs.
  • ABR - American Board of Radiology Cert - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire or
  • ABMP - American Board of Medical Physicists - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
